Cinemas in Amsterdam
There are many cinemas and film theatres to be found in Amsterdam. Enjoy the major Hollywood fims in the big cinemas, or the smaller productions that are shown in the film theatres. In the Netherlands all movies are played in the orginal language with Dutch subtitles.
Once a year, in November, a renowned festival of documentaries is held in Amsterdam. It is called IDFA, which stands for: International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.

De Balie
De Balie is situated next to the Leidseplein. It is a place for political and cultural debate, but interesting documentaries are also shown here. Many cultural events take place in de Balie, in the film theatre as well as in the rest of the building.

Het Ketelhuis
In the recently renovated Ketelhuis, Dutch tv and film are the main ingredients. Apart from a few cinemas, there is also room for a café in this building. This theatre is situated in the culture park Westergasfabiek (western gas factory) next to some bars, restaurants and other theatres.

The Movies
The Movies is the oldest cinema in Amsterdam. Films of high quality are shown here in a magnificent art déco style environment.

Pathé
This famous cinema chain has several establishments in Amsterdam. All big Hollywood productions can be seen here. The most remarkable Pathé cinema in Amsterdam is Tuschinski. The Art Déco and Jugendstil interieur together with the special lighting create a very special atmosphere.

Rialto
Many films, distributed by the Filmmuseum, have their premiere in Cinema Rialto. This cinema is run by several volunteers. Festivals and lectures are regularly held in Rialto.
