Kalverstraat in Amsterdam
The Kalverstraat is one of the best known shopping streets in Amsterdam. In the past cows were traded here, hence, the name of the street, meaning 'street of calves'.
Meanwhile the function of the street has changed, although trade is still the most important factor. Big chains like H&M and V&D are established here, but there are also jewellers, shoe stores and music stores to browse through. Apart from shops, there are also a few places to eat and relax.
The Kalvertoren shopping mall also houses many different shops. This three storey building offers clothing stores, music shops as well as a toy shop and a few lunchrooms. You have a fabulous view over Amsterdam city centre from the restaurant on the top floor, from which you can see many historical buildings.
The Kalverstraat starts at Dam Square and leads to the Spuistraat, where you are close to the Rembrandtplein, Muntplein and Flower Market.
The Individuals Statement Store is at Spuistraat 23. Students from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute show and sell their collections here.
