Markets in Amsterdam
A market (markt in Dutch) is a great place to find some good bargains. You'll find that your money stretches further if you rummage around long enough. Amsterdam has some well-known markets, each with its own atmosphere. So whether you are looking for antiques, second hand clothing, fruit and vegetables or organic produce, you will certainly find it on one of these markets.
Albert Cuyp markt:
The Albert Cuyp markt is probably the best known market in Amsterdam. Merchants use every trick in the book to get your attention. Everything ranging from clothes to exotic fruits can be bought here. The market is situated on the Albert Cuypstraat and is open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 18:00.
Flower markt:
This market is located on a canal. On the floating stalls you will find bulbs, flowers and plants. Take a walk from Muntplein to Leidseplein and smell the flowers. You can also buy some funny souvenirs here to remind you of your stay in Amsterdam. The market is open daily until about 17:30.
Noordermarkt:
This market is located in front of the Noorderkerk. Every Monday the stalls are filled with second hand clothing and antiquities. On Saturdays you can buy organic produce here.
The market is open every Monday from 9:00 to 14:00 and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 16:00.
Waterlooplein:
If you like roaming around, Waterlooplein is the place for you. You can buy anything from second hand clothing, art and accessories to records and curiosities. The square surrounds the Stopera (the city hall). Opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00.
