Muziekgebouw aan het IJ in Amsterdam
The Muziekgebouw aan het IJ (Music Hall on the IJ river) opened its doors in 2005, approximately 100 years after the Concertgebouw (Concert Hall) was opened. The Danish architects 3xNielsen drew up the design for this modern temple of music. After years of planning, Amsterdam was finally granted its much desired Concert Hall.
The building has one large concert hall with 750 seats and additional standing room for 1500 people. This hall is characterised by its fantastic acoustics. The emphasis lies on new musical developments in classical and contemporary music. There is also a smaller hall with 100 seats suitable for more intimate concerts.
You can enjoy a great view across the IJ river from the Muziekgebouw and its surrounding terraces. Also connected to the Concert Hall is the Bimhuis, primarily focusing on jazz and improvisation.
