Muziekgebouw aan het IJ in Amsterdam
The Muziekgebouw aan het IJ (Music hall at the IJ river) opened its doors in 2005, which is about 100 years after the Concertgebouw (Concert hall) was opened.
This modern showpiece was designed by the Danish architects of '3x Nielsen'. The wish for a medium-sized concert hall was finally granted when the Muziekgebouw was finished.
The building consists of a grand hall with 750 seats or standing room for 1500 people. Its design ensures some great acoustics. The Muziekgebouw focuses on new developments in classical and modern music. For more intimate performances there is also a small concert hall, with about 100 seats.
From the Muziekgebouw you can enjoy a great view on the IJ river.
Connected to this concert hall you'll find the 'Bimhuis', which offers jazz and improvisation.
