Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp
The Royal Museum of Fine Arts has an impressive collection of art. The museum at the Leopold De Waelplaats is housed in an imposing neoclassical building dating from the late 19th century.
In the art-historical museum of Antwerp you will find works of Belgian artists like the famous Antwerp trio Rubens, Van Dyck and Jordaens, as well as works by Ensor, Delvaux and Magrotte. Apart from paintings by the Antwerp and Flemish schools, old masters are also well represented. The museum has several masterpieces, including works from foreign schools.
The collection of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts includes over 13,000 works. The collection consists mainly of paintings, but there are also some drawings, prints and sculptures. The collection gives a comprehensive overview of developments in the field of art in Antwerp.
From 2010 the museum will be closed due to renovations. During the renovation the patios will be used as a museum and part of the collection will be transferred to other museums.
