Rubens House Antwerp
The Rubens House in Antwerp is dedicated to this baroque painter, book illustrator, designer and diplomat. There are paintings by Rubens himself as well as works by his contemporaries and assistants. The best-known work by Rubens which hangs in the museum, is his self portrait.
After Rubens had bought the building in the early 17th century, he extended it. His source of inspiration was the Greek and Roman antiquity and Italian Renaissance art. Peter Paul Rubens had an extensive art collection and a part of his impressive collection is displayed in the museum's art room. The architecture and Renaissance gardens of the Rubens House are also worth seeing, as is his studio, where most of his works were created.
