Bruges canals
The romantic canals that run through the historical inner city of Bruges, are known as 'reien' and form the vains of the city. They were named after the Reie, the river that used to run through this city.
Car traffic is kept away as much as possible from the centre of Bruges. That's why a boat trip on the canals is a lovely way to see the well-known sights of Bruges. During such a trip you will find out how charming the city really is, with its arched bridges and magnificent old buildings. Because of the many canals and bridges, Bruges is sometimes lovingly referred to as Venice of the North.
