French Fries Museum in Bruges

The French Fries Museum in Bruges is the first museum in the world dedicated entirely to the history of the potato to the creation of French fries. It is housed in the 'Saaihalle'. The museum displays devices that are used for growing, harvesting, peeling and divide the potatoes. After visiting the museum you can obviously taste real Belgian fries in the medieval cellar.

The 'Saaihalle' is one of the oldest historic buildings of Bruges. The building dates from the 14th century and was used by merchants from the Italian city of Genoa until the early 16th century. Their headquarters was named the Genoese Lodge. In the 17th century, the lodge was made available to the serge weavers. Serges are lightweight wool fabrics. After 1750, the building served as military depot, tavern and cinema. Today the French Fries Museum is situated here.
