Jan van Eyck Square
The square Jan van Eyckplein is in the centre of Bruges. The square was laid out at the end of the 18th century. The name is a tribute to the painter Jan van Eyck, who got a marble statue here as well. On the square are the Tolhuis and De Poortersloge. In the 15th century, the Poortersloge (Burghers Lodge) was a place for meetings and relaxation, and many wealthy Bruges burghers got acquainted in the Poortersloge.
