St. Salvator Cathedral

Originally, St. Salvator was a roman church, founded in the 9th century, but since the 19th century the St. Salvator's Cathedral is the cathedral of the diocese of Bruges. The cathedral is the successor of the former St. Donaas cathedral on De Burg, which was destroyed at the end of the 18th century.

The St-Salvator's Cathedral houses numerous pieces of art originating from the destroyed St. Donaas. Sights of interest in the cathedral include the baroque organ, the tapestries and the choir stall, decorated with the scutcheons of the knights of the Order of the Golden Fleece. The tower of the St. Salvator's cathedral is one of the three towers dominating the skyline of Bruges, together with the towers of the Church of Our Lady and the Belfry.
