Flemish cities of art
In Flanders you could almost trip over the many museums and intersting buildings. Art lovers can indulge in the Flemish cities Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, Louvain and Mechelen.
There are numerous museums in all shapes and sizes: large, small, modern or traditional with contemporary works of art and world-famous Flemish masters. The Flemish Art Collection includes the collections of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, the Groening Museum in Bruges and the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent. The collections complement each other perfectly and together they tell the story of art in Flanders from the 15th to the 21st century.
There are magnificent buildings in abundance in the five cities of art. The Grand Place with its splendid guild houses, town hall and cathedral are located in Antwerp. Louvain also has an impressive town hall and Mechelen has its wonderful cathedral and carillons. The historic city centre of Bruges is a world heritage site and worth seeing in Ghent are the St. Bavo Cathedral and medieval castle Gravensteen. Beguinages are an important cultural heritage in Flandres and most cities have one, or more. The Flemish cities of art also offer other attractions. Antwerp has its Zoo and amusement Aquatopia, Bruges has its dolphinarium Boudewijn Seapark and Mechelen its zoo Planckendael.
