Fort Napoleon near Ostend
When Napoleon feared an attack from England in 1811, he had an impressive five-sided fort built in the dunes of Ostend. It never came to a battle with the British and the fort has only served as an ammunition depot for the French army and for the German army in the two world wars. Today, Fort Napoleon is a museum which also has an excellent bistro.
