Groningen
In the north of the country lies the province and the city of Groningen. A lively and bustling student town with around 190,000 inhabitants, approximately the eighth city in the Netherlands in terms of size. The city is the centre of many activities in this mainly rural province.
The city offers many opportunities for a great weekend. There are a number of interesting museums you can visit, such as the Groninger Museum and cartoon museum Stripmuseum, but a quiet walk through the city is also lovely. There are many hidden courts of almshouses, forming an oasis of tranquility in the hustle and bustle of the city centre. In addition, the Universiteitsgebouw, the Town Hall and tower Martinitoren are also worth visiting. The city centre has many pubs and bars where you can unwind in a cheerful atmsophere.
