Clothmakers' Hall museum in Leiden
The Stedelijk Museum De Lakenhal (municipal clothmakers' hall museum) is located in a beautiful historical building which dates from 1640. It was designed by Arent van 's Gravesande. De Lakenhal became a museum in 1874. From 1640 to 1800 it was the place were inspectors tested the quality of the Leiden cloth. Memories of the textile industry, which has been so important to the city of Leiden, are kept alive in the museum's historical collection.
