Flevoland
Flevoland borders with the lakes Markermeer and IJsselmeer. The youngest province of the Netherlands includes the polder Noordoostpolder and the former islands Urk and Schokland, the latter of which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Almere and the provincial capital Lelystad are the major cities of Flevoland.
In Lelystad, the Bataviastad Outlet Shopping supplies hours of shopping fun. Shipyard Bataviawerf and aviation theme park Aviodrome are also fun to visit. True daredevils will surely enjoy themselves at Walibi World. Each year the large, famous Lowlands Festival is held next to this amusement park.
You can spot many birds species from one of the observation huts on the lakes Oostvaardersplassen, southwest of Lelystad. Or, go for a walk in Natuurpark Lelystad, where deer, boars and otters live. Lovers of contemporary art can also indulge themselves at the Museum De Paviljoens in Almere.
