Gelderland
Gelderland is a particularly popular province, with good reason. It is abundant with beautiful nature, picturesque villages, interesting towns and attractions. The cities each have their own interesting history. Nijmegen is the oldest city of the Netherlands and Arnhem is known, among other things, for its battle of Arnhem in 1944. Apeldoorn is known for its historic link with the Royal Household. You can shop extensively in all three cities, visit a museum or sojourn in a nice café or restaurant.
The splendid, varied landscape in the beautiful province of Gelderland attracts many visitors each year. It is also an ideal province for hours of cycling or walking. In the Achterhoek region you'll come across many castles and country houses and in the nature reserve the Veluwe: beautiful vistas, forests, heaths and wildlife. You can see more species of animal at the Burgers Zoo, the monkey park Apenheul or at the Dolpfinarium in Harderwijk.
