North-Holland (Noord-Holland)
In the province of Noord-Holland you can alternate a visit to lovely cities like Amsterdam, Haarlem and Alkmaar with a day at the beach in Zandvoort, Bergen, Egmond or Bloemendaal. Volendam and the Zaanse Schans have a tremendous tourist appeal, especially to foreign tourists. The authentic houses, mills and costumes add to the old Dutch atmosphere.
You can be take beautiful bike trips to the dunes of Schoorl, National Park Zuid-Kennemerland and the dunes reserve Noordhollands Duinreservaat. Or, rent a boat and enjoy a day out on the water on the lakes Loosdrechtse Plassen or Vinkeveense Plassen.
