Cube Houses in Rotterdam
These famous cube houses were built in the early 1990's in Rotterdam. The houses are located above the Blaak near the Old Port.
They take on the form of a tilted cube on a pole and were built by architect Piet Blom. Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house to 45 degrees and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. The complex comprises of 38 cubes, as well as a few larger cubes and a residential tower known as The Pencil. The cube houses are occupied, but one of the houses, the Kijk-kubus, is a museum where the public can see what its like to live inside one of these cube shaped houses on concrete pillars.
