Natural History Museum Rotterdam
The Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam (Natural History Museum) is housed in the Villa Dijkzigt, a listed building. Due to the lack of space, the museum was expanded in 1995. The new glass pavilion now features the highlight of the museum: a 15m long skeleton of a sperm whale.
The stunning museum collection includes about 250,000 objects. Part of it can be seen in the permanent exhibition WereldNatuur (World Nature). The 'Ánimal World' is divided into three basic areas: water, land, air and the transitional areas between them.
The Natural History Museum pays special attention to nature in the city. For example, there is the permanent exhibition 'Urban Nature', while the Bureau for Urban Nature Rotterdam (bSR) also has an office in the museum.
