The Mauritshuis, the Royal Cabinet of Paintings, houses a world famous art collection. 17th century Dutch paintings from the Dutch Golden Age form the heart of the collection. There are masterpieces by Vermeer, Rembrandt, Jan Steen and Frans Hals. The museum's collection also offers a good overview of both Dutch and Flemish paintings between 1400 and 1800. This special collection has been housed in the Mauritshuis for over 200 years. The building itself is a beautiful 17th century palace on the Hofvijver lake in The Hague.
