The magnificent building in which Hotel van Sminia Huys Leeuwarden is housed has a long history. Inside, the traces of previous occupants are still visible. For instance, the current room Tuinzaal used to be the practice of the town's physician Dr. Uffelie. In the floor of the room his initials are engraved. The beautifully restored building exudes the atmosphere of past times, also the hotel rooms have a peaceful and classic style. Each room has a different decoration and are very spacious with 40 m2. Guests may can have breakfast in their hotel room or walk across to street to Brasserie Lourens and have breakfast here. From Monday to Friday, breakfast is served from 07:00 to 10:00 h. On weekends, guests can have breakfast from 07:30 to 11:00 h.
In Grand Hotel Post-Plaza you can enjoy lunch at Brasserie Lourens from noon. The lunch consists of dishes from the small menu, hot dishes such as fresh soups and delicious rolls, fresh salads and pasta dishes. Scrumptious homemade cakes are on the small menu as well.
Dinner is served at Brasserie Lourens as well. The kitchen is open until 21:30 h. and it is not easy to choose from the many delectable dishes. Dinner here is clearly prepared and served with love. You can choose from culinary, traditional meat or fish or vegetarian dishes or be surprised by the four-course dinner from the chef.
The bar is open from 17:00 to 24:00 h. The bar is in the basement, where the servants' rooms used to be located. The bar itself is made of the suite doors of Dr. Uffelie and the the bar cabinets previously served as kitchen cabinets.

Those wanting to go out, will find many nice cafes in the centre where you can have loads of fun until the wee hours. Also a lot of fun is to take the ferry from Harlingen and visit and Wadden island, such as Terschelling and Vlieland.
