“ Had 2 rooms here about 18 months ago and thought it was terrific value. Came back for two nights this time and thought it was good but the room was quite basic. Surroundings

The historic city centre of Leeuwarden is within walking distance of the Oranje Hotel Leeuwarden - Hampshire Eden. For a nice view of the city you can climb the 40 metres high 'Oldehove' tower in summer. Because of the soft soil this tower is slightly slanted and is called the Frisian 'Tower of Pisa'. Parts of the old city walls and moats are monumental, as are various residences, churches and even parks. In the centre of Leeuwarden there are many cafés and other venues for a night on the town. A fun way of exploring the surroundings is by taking a boat tour: there are many places where you can rent a boat.

Food and Drinks

A wide breakfast buffet is set up daily in the Restaurant & Bar Van Buren. On Monday until Friday you can take breakfast between 07:00 to 10:00 h., Saturday and Sunday between 07:00 to 10:30 h. Restaurant & Bar Van Buren in the hotel is also a perfect spot to enjoy a savoury lunch or dinner. Here you can also order a nice cup of coffee or a good glass of wine. The dishes on the menu are inspired by French and Dutch cuisine, with the occasional Frisian touch. The menu is changed every two months. For a casual Friday afternoon drink Van Buren is an excellent choice as well. A fine bottle of wine is served, accompanied by tasty snacks. This will certainly go down well after a busy week at work. On Sunday afternoons you can enjoy a relaxing high tea.

Convenient location for commuting between towns
  • + Had 2 rooms here about 18 months ago and thought it was terrific value. Came back for two nights this time and thought it was good but the room was quite basic. Restaurant and reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Location opposite the station is fabulous.
  • The toilettries were really on the 'stingy' side. It was also frustrating not to have Wi-if connection in my room necessitating visits to the restaurant or to the Internet section that seemed to attract local student users. Just a note too- the lighting in the Internet area is so dim I couldn't see. Food was very good but as a traveller I would've liked an option to have a one plate standard dinner choice as well as the small tapas selection.

  • + Room extremely tidy and comfortable. The location of the hotel is very well placed.
  • Initially phoned hotel for an enquiry, was placed on hold for 6 minutes so I hung up and called again. Breakfast seems to be a little expensive at 15 euros.

Good quality, very friendly hotel in a central location.
  • + Very comfortable hotel with excellent service and friendly staff who couldn't do enough to help and speak very good english. Great location near to train station and easy walk into historic centre of Leeuwarden. Pleasant lounge facilities used for a drink with friends. We didn't bring our child this time, but we were pleased to see toys for children prominently in the lounge which gives a good sign of welcome. We had a nice stay, and we'd use them again.

Different price in reality
  • + Excellent food, very nice rooms, quick service, pretty, very well situated
  • The price is higher than the Hotels.nl said on the internet. Absolute minus. And the breakfast is emensly expensive. Also they are not used to children, and have very little flexibility when it comes to that.

Exemplary hotel every traveller wants to stay
  • + Staff's natural willingness to help customers with smile. Attention to details in place making customers feel welcomed. Breakfast was a treat which my wife & I fully enjoyed. Felt guilty that the room rate was cheap! Many thanks for everything and we will certainly return.

Best hotel in Leeuwarden
  • + Seen most hotels in Lw but this is still #1. Modern, clean rooms. Not too noisy. Good airco. Excellent restaurant & breakfast. Only real alternatives are van der Valk and de Klinze. Those are a 15minutes drive outside of Lw.
  • Often fully booked. Small (paid) parking lot, and (more expensive) paid parking all over Lw. Like Amsterdam, Lw's car park policy sucks.

  • (Travelling alone)
  • + I always enjoy my stay at the Orange and so am always happy to stay there.
  • The only downside items are.. 1) because I am self employed the rates are often beyond my budget and so I have to stay elsewhere. 2) I am English and enjoy a cup of tea but there is no milk or creamer provided and the tiny coffee cups are just not adequate for tea. The avarage English tourist would prefer something the size of a bucket. A large mug just might do.
