Concertgebouw in Amsterdam
In the year 1881 some prominent citizens of Amsterdam held a meeting, to discuss about art and culture in the capital. They decided that the time was ripe to build a new Concertgebouw (concert hall).
A new location was found just outside the city. It took about seven years to complete the buildwork. The Concertgebouw is located near the Rijksmuseum, which was built around the same time.
The Concertgebouw is renowned for its great acoustics. You can enjoy performances of the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest (Royal Concerthall Orchestra) and the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest (Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra). The Concertgebouw offers a wide variety of music, that ranges from classical music to jazz and worldmusic.
