Score of 46 reviews: 8.0

Every Saturday you can take a stroll through the antique and flea market in the Stationsstraat, and there are various markets on the Vrijthof square throughout the week. Besides its many markets, Maastricht is also blessed with a stunning history.

Typical Limburg extravagance can certainly be found at Designhotel Maastricht - Hampshire Eden. The luxury design rooms have been styled by Phillip Starck and Mark Newson, among others. All hotel rooms have an open and transparant ambience, and feature a minibar and a safe. On request the rooms can be organised entirely in accordance to your needs. You can book a room with a desk or extra wardrobe space, and the hotel's service offers much more, including an in-house florist, gift shop, car park (150 metres further along), babysitting service (reservations are required) and a gym. 24-hour room service or a goldfish on request: it can all be atuned to your personal preferences.

Organising a meeting is also one of the many possibilities at the hotel. The hotel offers a space of 350 m2, La XYZ, with excellent facilities for meetings, product presentations, fashion shows or brainstorming sessions. This room also bathes in natural light, and is inviting as well as functional.

  • + Looks good, and very nice staff. Also it's great that they have painkillers at the desk
  • The umbrella we got from the frontdesk (because it was raining) was too small and broken. Also no hotel logo. The other thing is that we forgot our toothpaste. Regular hotels carry their own line of toothpaste but not this one :(

Disappointing - will not return
  • + Friendly staff. Great location for train station and walking around Maastrict. Room was on side street so nice and quiet.
  • Room was tired looking in need of some refurbishment. Looked grubby so didn't feel very clean. Walk in shower leaked all over the bathroom floor. Corridors and reception area looked tired and grubby and in need of some refurbishment. Breakfast - staff worked very hard but there were not enough of them in the breakfast area. Orange juice and yogurt was being filled up using small cartons of cheap quality products. The hotel is called 'Design' but there was nothing special or design about it. Due to the above, not good value for money and will never stay there again.

Wouldn't go back
  • + Position was good, wifi was good
  • Breakfast too expensive at 19 euros , some staff need a lesson on being friendly and helpful.

  • + convenient for train station and centre
  • my room was at the front of the hotel and therefore noisy

Very good hotel close to city centre.
  • + Nice, clean and comfortable room. Adequate and friendly welcome.
  • You can hear the housekeeping cleaning the next rooms very clearly in the morning. Sounds from the hallway are very audible. The receptionist when we checked out was not friendly or interested.

We would use the hotel again
  • + The location is excellent. The staff was great

  • (Young couples)
Not worth the money, stay somewhere else.
  • Room had no basics like soap, coffee material in room dinning room service menu, and no wireless internet as listed. The Gym has three old machines not really a gym. Staff unhelpful and offered no compensation for bad service. The older cheaper rooms probably had all of this.

  • none

Nice stay for the weekend
  • + Clean, friendly, enough space in the rooms
  • Given informations in the room about the hotel and it's services are not enough, they were out of warbropes

One Disappointed Customer
  • + It's a 3 minute walk from my work. The dark rooms help block out the street noise and allow me to easily get over my jet lag.
  • It really annoyed me that I had to pay 10 euro for internet usage. Especially since it was free the last time I was there. The clerks at the front desk claimed they would talk to the manager about it, but never did. I also got a rate that was 400 euro more than I paid six months before for the exact length of stay (11 days). The maids made my bed but hardy cleaned anything else.

Designhotel ?
  • + Very good breakfast. Nice and friendly staff.
  • Nothing mentioned (on fe website) on construction that is going on. We had high expectations with regards to the level of design...., bathroom is very standard, overall 4 stars is questionable....

Good location, Cosy bar and friendly staff. Will use this hotel again!
  • + Cosy bar. Friendly staff. Good location. Free internet access in bar.
  • My safe wasn't working when I arrived and asked for it to be fixed the following day but was never fixed for my whole stay (6 nights). Also some dirt and muck on the floor when I arrived and was 3 days before it was cleaned.

  • (Travelling alone)
A comfortable stay
  • + Location, close to train station. Spacious room, comfortable bed. Nice design. Delicious breakfast. Kind and helpful staff.
  • Water bed (room 20; not too bad, but I probably had not chosen that room if given the choice). A fluorescent tube in the courtyard next to the window room was on during the night, too much light inside, even with blinds closed.

  • (Travelling alone)
  • + great sandwich place on site
  • small towels, charge for wifi
8.0
  • (Young couples)
  • + very freindly & helpfull in the reception
  • had a water bed on the ground floor but the bedroom window opened onto the garden where people were sat drinking & talking late on so really quite noisy. waiter service in the bar not very good.
9.6
  • (Older couples)
  • + Friendly staff; Clean and confortable room; Fast and efficient check in and out;
  • Breakfast too expensive; No private parking; No italian channel on TV.
8.0
  • (Travelling alone)
  • + pleasant staff; good 'feel' to the place; unfussy and focused on the clients needs.
9.2
  • (Young couples)
  • + The staff were very friendly and warm. The bathroom was really nice and beds very comfortable with high standard of bedding.
  • Because the rooms are so 'design' they lack some of the basics - a kettle for tea and coffee would have been nice although it did say you could order extra furniture if you wanted a desk etc The computer in the bar with free internet does not have any word software which makes opening attachments a problem. The biggest problem was a lack of draws and shelves for clothes. Our double room very large but had only one clothes rail.
