Description
The 2-star Hotel Viking offers 23 rooms. The double and triple rooms have private bathrooms, single rooms have a separate bathroom in the corridor. The hotel's central location makes it an ideal choice for guests who are looking for simple accommodation in the heart of the city and close to the sea.
You can enjoy a weekend of fresh air but Ostend has more attractions. In the North sea aquarium you can see more than 60 different species of sea animals and there is an extensive collection of stuffed fish and shells. The Vistrap (fish trap) is the outdoor fish market where you can turn to daily from 07:00 am for the freshest North sea fish and shrimps. Try the local specialty 'Wulloks' off one of the stalls on the Visserskaai, these are hot escargots prepared the Ostend way.
Food and Drinks
The continental breakfast buffet includes pastries, sandwiches, fruit cocktail, cereal, coffee and tea. Breakfast is served in the classically decorated breakfast room from 08:00 to 10:00 h.
There is no bar or restaurant in the hotel but nearby the hotel are pleasant restaurants, from classical to trendy, that have been offering good quality food for decades. In a seaside town fish, shrimps, mussels, lobster and oysters naturally have a prominent place on the menu.

Surroundings
The more than 75 year old three-master Mercator is a former training ship for officers of the Belgian merchant navy. The ship is now a nautical museum that still regularly participates in major sailing events. In Ostend you can take several boat trips, for instance with the two-mast 20 meter sloop ?De Nele?, but other ships will take you along the Belgian coastline as well. If you want to fish for shrimp you can book a trip on the Crangon, a fully equipped traditional shrimp boat, from mid April to mid October. At the place where the first lighthouse of Ostend was located lies the Mariners' Monument, commemorating the numerous fishermen who died at sea.
