Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Rotterdam

This museum came about because of a gift in 1841 from the Rotterdam art collector Frans Jacob Otto Boymans to the city of Rotterdam. In 1849 The collection was housed in the historic Schielandshuis. In 1958 the museum was given its present name when the collection of Daniel George van Beuningen was added to the museum's collection.

Boijmans van Beuningen is a very versatile museum, where visitors make a journey of art through time: right from the Middle Ages to the present day. The museum has an extensive collection of paintings containing works by Rembrandt, Hieronymus Bosch and Jan Steen. The Tower of Babel by Bruegel and Rembrandt's Titus are also magnificent masterpieces featured in this collection.

The museum offers a glimpse into the development of Impressionism and Modernism, with works by Van Gogh, Monet and Mondrian. Surrealism is also represented with paintings by Salvador Dali, Magritte and Man Ray. The Contemporary Art section includes works by Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys and Donald Judd.

As well as many paintings, the museum owns a large collection of sculptures, some of which can be admired in the museum garden. You have a beautiful view onto this garden from the restaurant.
