The characteristic building of Hotel de Oorsprong, which dates from 1884, still breathes the atmosphere of times gone by. The former equerry's dwelling and the two drawing rooms are still exactly as they were in the old days. It will not be hard to picture the proud black Frisian horses grazing in the meadow in front of the stud farm. In the hotel guests can obtain free walking and biking routes to explore the country estate 'Vegilinbossen' and its surroundings. For golfers, there is an 18-hole golf course within walking distance from the hotel, the 'BurgGolf St. Nicolaasga'.

In Joure, which is approximately 4.5 kilometres from the hotel, you can find an indoor and outdoor swimming pool as well as an 18-hole golf course. Other nice towns to visit in the area are Langweer, Lemmer, Sneek, and Sloten. In Sint Nicolaasga the 'St. Nicolaaskerk' church really stands out. Behind this church you can find a remarkable monument, a replica of the 'Lourdes' cave.
