very comfortable place to stay
  • + The room lighting is especially well thought through. Rare to find a hotel where the lighting is good for reading. Bed is comfortable. Bathroom well designed. Very nice people at reception.
  • Although we didn't place our towels on the floor they were replaced with fresh towels and so was the bed linen. This is really not necessary for a three night stay and it is not what their policy is as explained on cards in the bathroom. Dreadful music at breakfast...

The Mercure at the Spui is for us the most professional & pleasant
  • + very excellent service at the desk. even managed to print my boarding pass from my ipad. Good info on things to see in The Hague. good, quiet room with handy choice between hard and soft cushions.Nice bar and more. Not the first time we were in yr hotel.
  • Hanging space could be increased.
  • * my tip We recommend to start a tour through the "binnenhof " and end up in one or more of the many restaurants on the "plein"

Leuk verblijf in het centrum van Den Haag
  • + Ruime badkamer, comfortabel bed

Cosy comfortable hotel in a convenient location
  • + The hotel provided all the facilities that I look out for when I travel -- hairdryer, free wifi in the room, good service. What particularly impressed me about this hotel are the front desk staff who were so willing to help us out whenever we had a request. Kirsten, in particular, was very helpful.
  • Some things that can be improved: 1. The greenish lighting in the lift is a tad eerie - can be improved to make it more cosy. 2. The general lighting in the hotel and in the rooms is quite dark. Might be better to have more lights or brighter lights as it didn't feel too welcoming when we arrived in the night. 3. The maps and brochures at the reception area are not too helpful. Will be good to have more detailed maps and a greater variety of brochures that are helpful.
  • * my tip Book early! I wanted to book the hotel for another two nights, but the price was almost double what I paid initially. It's a really short walk from Den Haag Central Station, and the walk is quite smooth even with luggage. Don't bother walking from Den Haag Holland Spoor Station even though it seems equidistance on the map. It is a difficult walk with luggage.

Very nice hotel, highly recommended!
  • + I found it very convenient that customers don't have to pay in advance with a credit card, just book a room online. There is a very good explanation about sightseeings and museums of the Hague on TV channel 1, very useful. I liked the view from the window and double sound proof glass on the window
  • I didn't know where to park my bicycle, but it's a minor point

Baby friendly
  • + Very pleasant staff, only too happy to help with any request. The baby cot we had requested was not in our room when we arrived, but upon seeing the baby, the staff member at reception ordered one immediately and it was promptly delivered. High chairs were also available in the breakfast restaurant. Breakfast was delicious. Room was quiet. Very clean and comfortable.

A few small additions to make things better
  • + The shower was wonderful. The cleanliness exceptional.
  • There was no ice available on the floor and one had to go to the lobby bar each time. They would not supply anything to carry ice to your room. There was no tea or coffee making equipment in the room. You need at least one more free access computer in the lobby for guests to get on the web. One is NOT enough. There was always a long line for its use.

Great upscale value in the Centrum
  • + Close to everything in the centrum. 10 minute walk from Centraal Station, 5 minutes to shopping districts. Also sits on the square where most trams come through so easy to get around. 10 minute walk to the Noordeinde Palais and 20 mins on the tram to the Scheveningen beach community.
  • Being centrally located also meant some noise, but not horrible, and we were fairly low on 3rd floor...not a big minus

Overpriced Mercure Den Haag
  • + The location is excellent just 5 minutes from the train station. There is a tram stop in front of the Hotel. The hotel is just few steps from Den Haag shopping area with many cafes and restaurants all around.
  • For the price we paid we could have stayed at a hotel in Schivenegen including breakfast. I was surprised for not having a coffee maker and slippers in our room!

  • Wifi network difficult to use and overpriced. Restaurant overpriced for simple buffet.

As always, excellent
  • + Very nice rooms, excellent shower. As always very good.
  • Unfortunately at this moment the lobby and bar are refurbished, which makes the entrance look like a building site. But no disturbance at all from this activities.

Good quality hotel with helpful staff
  • + I suffered from a painful abscess in my gum during the night my wife and I stayed at the hotel, but the member of staff at reception in the morning (Marco? Carlo?)was particularly helpful in identifying a hospital I could go to for treatment.
  • There was temporary renovation work being done in the reception area that involved some noise and canvas covers being laid over the carpets, but it did not otherwise affect our stay.

  • (Older couples)
excellent
  • + Finally a hotel room where the lighting is very good. One can read a book in a chair and in bed without disturbing one's partner. No atmospheric lighting that doesn't add anything to a room.
  • smell of smoke is still lingering despite smoking ban since July 2008.

  • (Older couples)
Much better than expected.
  • + The room we stayed in had obviously been recently refurbished and it was lovely, especially the shower facilities.
  • The only reason we have marked service slighty down is because we did have to wait a little too long for service in the bar during the afternoon and early evening.

Bargain time
  • + Staff in reception and elsewhere were very good. The bargain rate was extraordinary. We didn't realise when we made the booking that mid- to late August is Den Haag's holiday time : the city was half empty. The hotel is no distance from the city centre, and VERY convenient for Hollands Spoor station: don't waste money on a taxi!
  • There can be a rather a lot of noise from the street (trams, etc) and from 'events' in the square between the hotel and the city hall. Breakfast is all right, but €19 is extortionate. (a) The staff are courteous and helpful, but basically the meal is self-service, not waiter service. (b) We still have to pay the full price, even if we only want a light meal. (If we were younger and not made slow by arthritis, we might have gone out into the city for breakfast.) A comparison: I enquired at the London Euston Novotel last week: at this higher standard hotel in the Accor group a full breakfast is £14.50 and 'continental' £9.95 (about €18.30 and €12.50) The rather small bar doubles as the "restaurant" in the evening. We didn't use it.

  • + The hotel staff are very professional and friendly. The room was excellent and we loved the Rain shower. The hotel is situated in a very convenient location, with the station, tram links and shopping centre very close by, which is very useful if you do not have a car. The hotel is very clean with very nice decor. We enjoyed our stay immensely and would definitely recommend the hotel to all our friends, and we hope to stay there again soon.
