On the banks of the lake Markermeer (or IJsselmeer), stands the Best Western Hotel Spaander, an authentic and atmospheric accommodation in Volendam. The hotel dates from 1881 and although the hotel has many modern facilities, the original atmosphere has remained intact. The original owner of the hotel used to let the many artists that stayed in the hotel pay for their accommodation in paintings. As a result, there are still more than a thousand works of art that grace the hotel's walls.

The 'Oude Herberg' (Old Inn) is the most authentic part of the hotel and still breathes a unique atmosphere.
In Brasserie Cathrien guests can enjoy a nice snack or drink, as well as a picturesque view of the harbour.
Finally, the hotel also has an atmospheric pub that is also popular with the local population.

Best Western Hotel Spaander lies in the famous harbour of Volendam. Here one can enjoy a beautiful view of the lake Markermeer. The old fishing boats and the many historic houses along the water are always very special to behold. Along the 'Dijk' (sea dyke) there are many tourist shops. From March through October there is a daily ferry service between Volendam and the island Marken in the Markermeer. This is also a popular destination for tourists. This town is also known for its picturesque village scape and the folkloric costumes.
