Hotel Van der Valk Den Haag - Voorschoten is conveniently located between The Hague and Leiden. Schiphol Amsterdam Airport can be reached by car in about 25 minutes. It is therefore an ideal starting point for day trips to historical cities or to the beach. In the hotel guests stay in a luxurious environment. It is also a perfect spot to hold a meeting or enjoy a nice dinner. The hotel offers two restaurants that both have their own atmosphere and cuisine. Restaurant 'Upstairs' has a roof terrace. In the evening guests can have a drink in the bar.

The hotel offers standard rooms, comfort-, deluxe rooms and suites. All rooms are equipped with such amenities as a bath, shower, telephone, television with movie service and a safe. Food and Drinks

On weekdays a luxurious breakfast buffet is set up between 07:00 and 11:00 h. which offers different bread types, warm dishes, fruits and beverages. On weekend breakfast is served until 11:30 h.
On the first floor of the hotel one can find the trendy restaurant 'Upstairs'. The kitchen staff prepare culinary dishes in the open kitchen, using only fresh ingredients from the region. The extensive wine list offers good wines to match with every dish. On sunny days guests can enjoy dinner on the adjacent roof terrace. The restaurant is open on Tuesday through Sunday from 17:00 h. It is recommended to make reservations.
In the atmospheric à la carte restaurant the staff serve seasonal dishes. This restaurant also houses the 'culinaire plaza', where a lunch buffet is served on Monday through Saturday. Every Sunday a brunch buffet is organised in one of the restaurant rooms. The bar is open each day from 17:00 h., where guests can order drinks as well as something to eat.

- Checking in: Reception misinterpreted the booking and tried to register us "without breakfast". Had to be corrected; attitude unhelpful, surly. Room: tea and coffee making would have been useful. Bathroom: no anti-slip surface in the bath, dangerous. Position of room: sleep disturbed by lorries entering and leaving the premises very early in the morning. Buffet breakfast: hot food ran out, had to wait for re-fill. Wedding breakfast: main meal, not a beef stroganoff as we recognised it.

- The hotel reception staff were not very welcoming and this was also the experience of my brother and his partner and my sister and her husband. Each of the three couples were asked to pay for breakfast when our bookings clearly stated that breakfast was included in the price. Of course we did not pay any extra. At the end of the stay, they wanted to charge me 175 euros per day, rather than the agreed price of 175 euros for the two nights. They clearly wanted to extract more money out of each of us and as a consequence I would be reluctant to stay there again.

+ Wir sind seit weit über 20 Jahren jährlich mindestens einmal Gäste in Ihrem Haus, was ja auch etwas aussagt. Wir schätzen es, dass wir mit unseren kleinen Hunden bei Ihnen sein können, was für uns auch Voraussetzung für eine Buchung ist.
- In den Gängen sah es etwas zerschlissen aus. Beim Frühstückbüffet gab es keine Abfalltöpfchen auf den Tischen und keine Tabletts beim Büffet, sodass man x-mal hin- und herlaufen musste.

+ Lots of parking and there seems to be some kind of exotic bird farm at the back, not often you get see an ostrich before breakfast ! Very good breakfast, well worth paying for if it is not included in the room rate. Good restaurant and bar on site and the public areas are all very stylish. The staff are all helpful and friendly.
- Had to do a big mosquito-hunt on arrival. Judging by the remains of mosquitos on the ceiling I wasn't the first to do this. There was a lot of noise in our room from the new upstairs bar/disco terrace - if you have a room at the back of the main building. Seems to get used for a lot of conferences/weddings and stag/hen nights which can make the place busy and bustling: It's not the place for a quiet break !

- Our second visit within 4 weeks. Rooms are clinical and sterile ie: lacking in any visual warmth. No colour, no information material about the hotel and its environs. The light bulbs were of such low wattage it was not conducive to reading in bed. The breakfast service was poor, hot dish containers were not topped up or replaced without asking. No greeting on entering the area. Reception staff like everything else were clinical. My wife is disabled and inspite of a prior request she was given a room with steps up from within the room. The receptionist had no knowledge of the actual rooms. Our relatives took us to dinner in the top floor restaurant, the decor was nice but the service was slow and the food that arrived did not reflect the elaborate menu descriptions. The one nice experience was the very friendly and helpful young man in the bar. Overall this hotel is tired in the sense it needs some fresh management to really shake it up. If you just want a bed and breakfast with no frills OK. Would not stay again.

- We arriaved 9.15pm and was told by reception that the restaurant would be opened until 10pm for service.When we went into the restaurant at 9.20pm the restaurant manager said we could order but had to hurry up as the kitchen closed at 10pm,the service was poor,rushed and meal was awful.I asked for my meat to be well cooked without any blood coming from the steak.It turned up very rare,running with blood.When i complained and asked for it to be cooked more,it came back to me 10 mins later and had been placed in a microwave.My husband had eaten his meal and i was left rushing to eat mine as the staff wanted to re lay the tables for the morning.The service was appauling,we chose to eat out the next day..... The morning after we went for breakfast and staff that were on in the restaurant were unfriendly and unhelpful we were again very disappointed..

- No BBC1 TV. It used to work until the hotel changed tv channel provider and now means that we have to stay at another hotel in the area if we want to see anything special. Sounds trivial but it is a real pain for Brits. ALl the other hotels have it. I know they have BBC2 and BBC world but would swap BOTH for BBC1.

+ The hotel is very convenient for us to visit my mother who lives in Voorschoten.
- There is no coffee & tea-making facility in the room as there is in the UK. It's a long way to go to the bar if you're tired in the evenings for a hot drink, and room service for a cup of cocoa is a bit steep.

- Omdat wij op kamer 206 zaten en het slecht weer was moesten we een toer door het gebouw maken. Vanaf de receptie eerst naar etage 2, dan de brug over en een lange gang naar de volgende lift, dan naar etage 1 en dan weer aan het eind van de gang onze kamer. Omdat we senioren zijn waarvan een slecht ter been, was dat een minpunt. Volgende keer zullen we dit specifiek melden.

Buffet sehr reichhaltig, abwechselungsreich, für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei. Restaurant Upstairs gehobenste Küche, sehr exquisit, sehr zu empfehlen, teuer, aber ausgezeichnet, Weinempfehlungen paßten hervorragend zu den einzelnen Gängen. Strand in Wassenaar mit ca. 9 km nicht zu weit entfernt, dadurch aber passendes Preis- Leistungsniveau.
- Unterschiede zwischen Komfort, Standard und Deluxe Zimmer nicht klar. Zimmer über Internet gebucht, wies anderen Gesamtrechnungsbetrag als im Hotel aus, wurde aber geklärt. Ab 10. 30 Uhr wurde nicht mehr soviel nachgelegt (verständlich), Tassen hätten aber noch nachgereicht werden sollen.
