Bed and Breakfast Shire is established in a luxurious villa. The entire house has underfloor heating, there is a lovely breakfast area with a kitchen and the garden has a patio. The host and hostess will greet you with a cup of coffee and a sweet treat. They are also happy to help you with any questions and tips about the area.

The luxurious rooms feature plenty of comfortable facilities, such as a television, underfloor heating, a minibar, bathrobes and Aloë Vera skin care products. You can also make a cup of coffee or tea in your room. Most rooms have a private bathroom.

Guests can make use of the hotel's spa centre. Here you can enjoy the infrared sauna, Turkish steam bath, a computerised massage chair and a Vibrosaun.

Surroundings

Shire Bed and Breakfast is located in the village of Wervershoof on the IJsselmeer lake. Near Wervershoof lies the smallest and oldest village of Medemblik, where you can visit the Radboud castle and the bakery museum. Or go on a journey with the museum steam tram. Enkhuizen and Hoorn are easy to reach from the Bed and Breakfast. The West-Frisian landscape is lends itself perfectly for a lovely walk or a bicycle tour.

Great Stay with Convivial Hosts
  • + Room nicely furnished and very roomy and comfortable. Bathroom was outstanding. Host very knowledgable about the local area and very hospitable.
  • – Narrow stairs to the second floor, but typical of Dutch houses.
  • * my tip I would highly recommend staying at the Shire B&B for anyone who wants to explore this area of Holland.

Welcoming and spotless family guesthouse
  • + Very nice welcome from the owners and the rooms themselves were beautifully presented and very clean and tidy. Fairly conveniently located for Enkhuizen and its excellent Zuider Zee meseum.
  • – Slightly out of Enkhuizen which is the main town nearby but this is a minor quibble!
  • * my tip Visit the Zuider Zee museum in Enkhuizen - a very good open air museum of Dutch seafaring life. The entrance is located a little way away and so a ferry trip takes you to the museum past the harbour entrance of Enkhuizen which is also impressive.

Friendly but definitely not suitable for my age group
  • – Stairs are too steep, I have had a knee operation and the steps to my room were a hazard, also I have to got to the Bathroom during the night nad the toilet was shared and on the floor below
