The Old Nickel is a small family-run hotel. The multilingual staff are committed to ensure that your stay in Amsterdam will be a wonderful and truly memorable experience to stay with you for years to come. They will gladly assist you in booking a tour or renting bicycles. The rooms have a shared bathroom on the same floor. All rooms come with a television, except the rooms in the annex. A radio alarm clock and luggage rack are available on request. The cosy bar with its woodcarvings features 17th century remains of the ship with which the naval hero Michiel de Ruyter once sailed the seven seas. The bar also offers more than 70 different kinds of specialty beers.
The hotel is situated on the spot where the first houses of Amsterdam were built. To protect the houses against water from the river Amstel, a dam was built, and this is how the city got its name. Today, Dam Square is a major attraction in Amsterdam. The Royal Palace, Nieuwe Kerk, Madame Tussauds and the Bijenkorf department store are all located around this square; a place where street artists also regularly perform. Also situated on Dam square is the National Monument commemorating war casualties.Surroundings
