Hotel
The Hotel De Munck in Amsterdam is a memorable 2-star hotel in a characteristic and quiet canal street in the city centre. This simple yet charming family-run hotel had been positively reviewed in several travel guides. The building in which it is located was built in 1727 as the residence of one of the sea captains of the Dutch East India Company. The hotel?s current owners have a special liking for sixties pop music, as is evident from the many colourful album covers that decorate the walls. The reception and breakfast areas are furnished with many sixties accents, including an original jukebox. Equally charming is the hotel?s patio, which is bursting with colourful flowers in the summertime.
The entire hotel is smoke-free. The 16 rooms of Hotel De Munck have modern furnishings and are equipped with comfortable facilities. Each room has a television, telephone, radio, and in most cases a private toilet and bath/shower. Guests of the hotel can also use the wireless Internet connection in various parts of the hotel, or the computer with Internet in the lobby. At additional charge Hotel De Munck also offers a speedy laundry service and a professional and multilingual babysitting service (reservations for this service may be needed in the weekends. Information about the costs is available at the reception.
The hotel is located in Amsterdam?s famous ring of canals, close to the ?Frederiksplein? (Frederik Square). It has a nice view of the ?Achtergracht,? a small canal that runs into the river Amstel. As such, the hotel has a convenient location near the city centre. At 300 metre distance from the hotel you will find a stop for tramline 4, which offers guests a good connection to the old city through the 'Utrechtsestraat'. On this street, you will also find a great variety of shops, bars, and restaurants. Within walking distance of the hotel there is a good number of well-known museums, important shopping streets, and two lively markets: the market on the 'Waterlooplein' and the 'Albert Cuypmarkt'. The city?s vibrant nightlife can be experienced at the nearby ?Rembrandtplein?, so guests of the hotel will have a many-sided impression of what the city of Amsterdam has to offer.
Surroundings
Hotel De Munck has a convenient location in the ring of canals around the old city, and is close to the banks of the river Amstel. This location is a perfect starting point for a memorable exploration of this characteristic area. The 'Rembrandtplein', an important centre for Amsterdam?s nightlife, is at approximately 700 metres from the hotel. With the tramline in the nearby 'Utrechtsestraat' guests will also have a good connection to the inner city: tram 4 will take you to the famous ?Spuiplein? in merely 5 minutes, and to Amsterdam Central Station in 10 minutes.

the boss was very very kind and he gave us many informations for amsterdam. He had always a big smile and when we asked him to open the heating, he opened the heatind and he additionally brought heater. When we were booking the room we asked him a refrigerator and a balkony with view on the canal if of course was possible. He promised us that if he could that he would do and he did. Every day they took the trash and every 2 days we had clean towels. The boss also was serviceable onthe breakfast
It was the cheaper and better room we had seen with double bed, private room, breakfast on the center but in comparison with the others rooms in amsterdam.Generally, this price for this room in another city i think that was very expensive.
“My tip: Dont look for others hotel. I was looking for a double room, with private bathroom, bathtub, wifi, hairdresser, window on the canal and breakfast in the center beside the Rembrand square (the best square) and near the dam square and Damrak and 100m from tram station and was the cheaper hotel.”

Well located
Line up for breakfast. Very noisy on the first floor, you will be awaken by every person ringing at the door after hours. So little frills, read none, that you wonder what you are paying for...
“My tip: near by Pata negra Spanish restaurant is great, noisy with good greasy tapas, wines and beers...”

Good service, Hotel keepers are very nice and helpful, the location is very good (near Rembrantplein by foot and very close to trams station at Fredericksplein). Breakfast included.
Tiny tiny rooms at 3rd floor, tiny stairs…but i guess it's common in Amsterdam !

The hotel is located in a very nice neighborhood, close to the center. We stayed in a double room with shared facilities. The room was clean, the bathroom and toilet were clean as well and they were shared with only one other room. The breakfast was good with some variety to choose from. Staff was friendly. Very good quality for the price.
Not all lamps were working in our room, but it wasn't a big problem for us. Also water was dripping from the toilet sealing, probably some pipe was broken. Hopefully it was a temporary problem and they'll fix it soon.
“My tip: There is a big flee market quite close to the hotel, on Waterloo Plein. It is also nice to just walk around the area, really pretty streets, kanals and Amstel river.”

“My tip: Argentina's grill restoran - best! не ходите в ледовый бар - бред!!!!”

both female and male staff were extremely friendly and helpful, very very nice people. even if they dont have an answer to ur question they'd still take effort to find out. deliciouse coffee!! beautiful garden nearby, supermarket and tram stop. just perfect!
grasshopper was on my pillow, probably cuz the windows were always opened. A trade-off for the beautiful view, we had to bare the scary stairs. tiles made noises.

The service was excellent and kind, situation was nice - peaceful area, but all the interesting sites were on a walking distance! Rooms are all a bit different, but most of them seem to be satisfactory. At first we got an awful room, nothing like we expected from the pictures. However, they were really helpful and we got to change the room for a really nice one. We also got the baby cot for our little boy and it didn't cost anything extra!
The breakfast is a bit simple, but still satisfactory. The rooms are also a bit worn out and outdated, but cosy and clean. I think we got what we expected and we had a wonderful holiday!

Location: quiet neighbourhood, everything within an acceptable walking distance (and if you don't like walking there is a tram that stops almost in front of the hotel), supermarket and some very good restaurants right around the corner. Friendly staff, always ready to help Rooms: quiet and pleasant room, lots of sunlight throughout the day, clean sheets, clean bathroom,... Breakfast: plenty of choice, coffee included
None that I can think of.

We had a wonderful stay. The room was large and clean. Decor was very dated but functional. Typical canal house stairs. Nice breakfast. We walked everywhere in Amsterdam from the hotel. The owners were polite and helpful. Great dining just steps away.
No real minuses. On a quiet street. Steps away from a nice grocery store and a café. Within a 30 min. walk of almost anywhere in Amsterdam.15 min. from the van Gogh and the Reichsmuseum, 10 min. from the Hermitage, zoo and the music theater; 12 min. from Leidsplein of Rembrandtplein. A long walk from the central station and I would not advise it with heavy bags or, as I did it, at four in the morning.

Room even for 4 persons sufficiently large
Difficult access to upper floors with luggage, internet accessibility only downstairs

Close to the Rembrandtsplein, atentive ,freindly staff, IF you have a room in the main hotel the rooms are nice and roomy
had booked 5 nights at de Munck, the first two nights I was given one of the two rooms in the back seperated from the main hotel. Theses rooms are very small , smelled of marijuana, sub standered . Iam sorrry I didnt ask for a discount for the first two nights

Location
Style, I understand it's a two star budget. However, with the prices they charge it's due for some renovations. Someone is just pocketing insane profits at this hotel, on last minute bookings, once everything else in the city is unavailable. There were night stands from the late 60's with radios built in, that of course were not working (Really? It's time to throw those away & invest a little back into the place) If they spent some time & money this could be a 3 star hotel. The T.V has 3 channels, the diner theme is very out dated, silly & doesn't match the hotel. The stairs are not Amsterdam friendly if you are visiting to enjoy coffee shops. The bathrooms had a very funny odor. The staff was friendly the one time we dealt with them.
