Hotel

The Owl Hotel offers the tranquillity of a residential area and a bustling city centre at walking distance. Here you can stay in a comfortable, peaceful environment near the luscious, green Vondelpark as well as the vibrant Leidseplein. On the same street you will also find the Zevenlandenhuizen. This row of beautiful buildings was built in different architectural styles, each typical of one of seven European countries, from France to Russia. Public transport in Amsterdam is fast and frequent. Multiple tram and bus connections will take you from Amsterdam Central Station to the Leidseplein. From here it is only a few steps to the hotel. There is always something going on at the Leidseplein. The many restaurants, bars and outside terraces offer dishes from all over the world, as well as many opportunities to indulge in cultural delights.

The atmospheric Owl Hotel is situated in a monumental building, where a personal touch and a pleasant service come together to provide a warm welcome. All rooms are equipped with a private bathroom, television, hairdryer and a direct telephone line. The hotel offers a laundry, dry-cleaning and babysitting service. The hotel provides a lot of information regarding excursions and trips, which can be easily booked directly through the hotel.

Surroundings

The Owl Hotel is located right in between the Vondelpark and the city centre. The quiet environment and the good connections to the inner city, which is within a 10-minute walking distance, create perfect opportunities for a cultural visit to the Dutch capital. The Leidseplein is easy to reach and presents a wide variety of restaurants, bistros and terraces. Other areas of interest are the Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum, the Van Gogh Museum and the concert hall Concertgebouw.

Good location but small and needs storage space

Staff was very nice and helpful. Great locations near museums and a doable walk into the central tourist core in good weather.

Price one day was 300 pretty high for such an old small room . Price two days later only 150. Room very small as was tiny shower. No drawers in our room so had to live out of a suit case which is tough in such a small room. Downstairs breakfast area dusty .

“My tip: Location great, pack for tiny room”

    Good location for museums

    Bed was ok

Bathroom should br re-designed. Price was doubled close to the weekend

“My tip: Rent a bike or buy a transportation pass, otherwise you will be doing a lot of walking”

    Location

Noise made by staff in courtyard until 1.30 a.m, making sleep impossible. Very unhelpful and quite unsatisfactory response from manager when confronted next morning. 50percent increase in rates between Wednesday and Thursday. Manager said there were different rates for different nights. This was not indicated when booking. The second rate for Thursday 22nd May was very expensive.

“My tip: Check rates per night when booking. Excellent locality for museums and transport links to Central Amsterdam”

Nice and quiet hotel close to the center

This is a nice quiet hotel. The rooms are clean and the breakfast is nice. The staff is pleasant and helpful, and the biggest plus is the location - in a nice Ledsplein area.

The wi-fi did not work well, on the first day there was no wi-fi at all and on other days there were many disconnections. T

“My tip: Cafe de-klos, 5-7 min walk from the hotel.”

A nice and friendly small hotel

Lot of choice for the breakfast. Staff always available.

Not possible to pay only the room and not the breakfast. it would be great to have fruit salad with fresh fruits and not fruits from the can.

    “My tip: The Seafodd bar”

This should really be kept a secret

Close enough to Leidesplein but far enough away not to hear the noise!

    None

“My tip: The Van Gogh Museum is excellent but don't visit on Sunday - too busy. Staff at the reception recommended places to eat and we were not disappointed.”

In generall, it was a pleasant hotel, my only complaint is pillows!

Nice hotel with friendly stuff. The room was small but clean and had a good view on a quiet street.

The pillows were too high for me so I did`t sleep well. The window didn`t open. The light in the bathroom went off on the last day of my stay. A little bit far from the center.

“My tip: Close to museums and Vondel park.”

    Excellent location, friendly service.

The complementary breakfast was tasty and substantial. The staff.were really friendly and helpful. I had a delightful stay in Amsterdam and I was really pleased with the Owl Hotel.

My room was a bit small but I didn't mind because the price was reasonable.

“My tip: A short walk to many attractions. I was particularly interested in the art museums. Three of the major museums are located approximately four blocks away. A ten minute walk and you're there. If you catch a tram you can access the city center in minutes.”

I recommend the Owl Hotel; as a single woman over 70, felt very safe.

Having stayed at The Owl many times prior to 2001 and again recently, it remains consistently good in every way with obvious improvements and additions over the years. It is quiet, very close to the hub of Amsterdam and the staff are extremely helpful. The breakfast is generous and excellent quality.

The single room is obviously different from double rooms used previously by my late husband and myself so this is not negative as such but not as comfortable.

“My tip: Arrive in Amsterdam, book into The Owl and enjoy the most vibrant, wonderful city in the world while having all the comforts required after a day out.”

Charming local hotel. We would stay again without hesitation.

The Owl is an affordable hotel in an excellent location close to many attractions and transportation. The room we stayed in was clean, generously sized and charming. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The adequate breakfast was served in a quaint dining area.

Our visit was during a warm spell in Amsterdam, but opening the windows to our room cooled things off perfectly and comfortably. If you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs as you'll hear the occasional traffic and conversations of passersby on this generally quiet street. While we had a large bed, it was two twins pushed together with individual duvets. That said, they were clean and very comfortable.

“My tip: First, set your expectations appropriately. This is an older, but very well maintained European hotel. If you are looking for an American style Marriott or Hilton room, stick to those chains. If you want an affordable and charming local experience that will help make your Amsterdam visit memorable, by all means, stay here. Also, take some time to get lost in the neighborhood next to the park and just behind the hotel. ”

First two nights we had to stay in two bedrooms as the hotel double booked the quad room.

The free breakfast was really good and included latte/ cappucino. It is a 5 minute walk to the park. There is a computer in the lobby for customers' use. Cabs will come to the Owl within 5 minutes after a call. The lobby and garden areas are pleasant/ clean.

Even the " double" is a tiny room. There was no tub. The hall and room carpets are "dingy" and frayed. This is depressing and a departure from the decor in the lobby. It's a bit far from the Dam Square and some other major attractions--though in walking distance to others. There was no coffee in the room or lobby ---except during breakfast. It should be available in the lobby around the clock. Wireless internet is not free and works erratically. There

“My tip: Avoid the single rooms. Be sure to take advantage of the free breakfast.Spend most of your time in the garden or lobby.”

    Look elsewhere.

Very clean hotel. Nice service at the Reception Desk.

Friday and Saturday nights were terribly noisy. Must be some sort of party center close by. Noise continued until 4:00 a.m. Lift was very small. Breakfast only (no hot food).

Clean, comfortable hotel in a great location.

We liked the hotel so much we returned there for another stay.

My only complaint is that for the price, wi fi should be free in the rooms. Also, coffee making facilities in the rooms would be nice, as would real glass instead of plastic.
