Food and Drink
An extensive live cooking breakfast buffet is available to all hotel guests, every morning from 07:00 until 10:30. Restaurant 28Dining offers a varied menu that incorporates herbs and vegetables from its own garden. The outdoor terrace is a lovely spot in the summer months. The restaurant is open daily between 11:00 and 23:00. The hotel bar is the perfect place for a cup of coffee or a few after-dinner drinks. The bar closes at midnight. A day out? Why not order a packed lunch at reception? A live cooking buffet is held every Saturday night. While the buffet is served, children can bake cookies in the kid's kitchen and have fun in Kids City, which also has a bouncy castle. Advance reservation is recommended for the live cooking buffet.

Spacious and very comfortable room. Excellent staff that answered all of our questions. Restaurant staff was also very polite and fast. Very good selection of dishes with some haute-couture options.
No initial explanation on how the hot tub worked.

Receptie had geen zin in om mensen te woord te staan aan de telefoon. Belde naar receptie met van Der Valk Assen even geduld aub zegt ze van de balie na 10min wachten nog niets. Naar de balie gelopen met telefoon in de hand. Kon direkt met ze praten hadden det niet druk. Maar hadden schijnbaar geen tijd om de telefoon op te pakken.nog even gezeten bij de balie nog steeds met de telefoon aan het oortje mooi lekker rustig bij de balie

Attitude of all personnel, from reception to the restaurant, was very friendly, polite, and helpful. Room was quite comfy, the bathroom was spacious.
There was no cold water in the bathroom early morning of my last day (if I didn t myself screw up something).

Great looking hotel, great restaurant, great staff, nice bar.
The only thing that lets it down are the beds.
We were in a comfort deluxe room and the beds were so uncomfortable. 2 singles beds pushed together with matteress tops that don't meet make for some pretty uncomfortable sleeeping. What is wrong with a double bed in a double room.
A member of the reception staff was quite rude to me but another stepped in and sorted my problem in a totally professional way.

Coffee at Breakfast greatly improved from previous visits to the hotel. Checking in and out very straightforward.
On this visit, there seemed to be a shortage of restaurant / kitchen staff, and the service was slow.
The choice / preparation of the meals caused me some problems with chili in the vegetables, and generally too much SEASONING in all the meals.
“My tip: There is a car petrol station a short walk away, where you can buy biscuits, chocolate and some toiletries etc. There are some walks in the forested area adjacent to the hotel.”

Very friendly
The hotel was cold and the heating in my room never came up to the preset temperature (21C). There were also electrical problems in the room resulting in the main ceiling lights not working. This was reported.

Excellent breakfast, very good restaurant. Good base to explore Drenthe and Groningen (need a car).
Can be a little tricky to find.
