Geertien is a cosy hotel on the waterfront. It is located in green surroundings with lovely historic villages. The renowned village Giethoorn, that is often called 'Venice of the North', lies only a stone's throw away. The vicinity offers many recreational options. The staff will gladly help you to rent a bicycle or tour boat, or recommend nice hiking, cycling or canoeing routes. An excellent restaurant and a cosy café, that breathe the atmosphere of times long gone, can be found adjacent to the hotel.
The small-scale hotel has 14 rooms, two of which are suites. The use of nice materials and colours gives the rooms a stylish touch. They are all provided with a bathroom with a shower and/or bath, television, telephone and free wireless Internet.

Surroundings
Near Hotel Geertien Blokzijl you can find the nature reserves 'De Weerribben' and 'De Wieden'. These peat landscapes originated from the cutting of peat. Apart from water, a lot of woods and reed lands can be found here, which makes the area an excellent habitat for all kinds of bird species. The otter has been successfully reintroduced here in the year 2002. The population has grown into three generations because of the good environment and clean water.
Food and Drink
Breakfast is served on weekdays from 07:30 to 10:00 h. and on weekends from 08:30 to 10:30 h.Café Restaurant Geertien was established in 1825 and used to be a meeting point for skippers and peat cutters. The atmosphere still reminds of these times. The special ambience attracts many clients to the restaurant. The kitchen staff create savoury and fresh seasonal dishes. Apart from the extensive menu the restaurant also offers many delicious whines. The restaurant is closed on Wednesdays from September through May.

a beautiful hotel, with lovely peaceful and tranquil surroundings right by the river. Bike hire available if you want to explore and the roads are all bike friendly with designated bike lanes. Friendly staff and comfortable clean accommodation. Simply Beautiful.
Mosquitoes are a nuisance in the evening so take a good insect repellent
“My tip: Visit Blokzijlt nearby, it has a beautiful harbour and lovely restaurants. Visit Giethoorn, which is like a mini Venice all on the river. You can hire a small boat to explore which is not expensive and you can explore many gift shops and bars and restaurants as well. ”

Location at the country side in à quite place. Room confortable and clean. The restaurant should be nice, recommandes by Michelin.
No real contact with someone. So impersonnel. I met 5 différent persons just for one night. Quite extensive for à family ( 2 parents, 2 kids with âge of 10 and 8) because you need to rent 2 rooms.
“My tip: You can easily go to Blokzijl, which is very close to the hotel. And there you can find many restaurants, in à very nice place (small Harbor)”

Lovely, quiet location. Super atmosphere in Brown Bar with its dark woods and candlelight. Good food, large portions(abit too large actually!) Comfortable room.
Slightly over-priced, seeing breakfast was not included.
