Hotel

The atmospheric Fletcher Hotel de Zalm dates from 1928 and is beautifully situated in the centre of Brielle. The picturesque town has lovely terraces, beautiful canals, charming boutiques and cosy restaurants. The three-star hotel offers comfortable rooms, an excellent à la carte restaurant and an ambient lunch café. Its location makes this hotel a popular choice for those staying in Brielle; business travellers included. The hotel has a bicycle shed and bikes are available for hire.

Stroll past countless listed buildings and fortress walls and you'll be sure to experience beautiful Brielle's rich and eventful history. The fortress town of Brielle largely dates from the 17th century, and has one of the best preserved defensive works in the Netherlands. Brielle was previously called Den Briel; a name known to every Dutchman. On April 1, 1572 the city was captured by the Sea Beggars. However, the Iron Duke of Alva rather underestimated the seize of Brielle, which eventually led to the Dutch revolt against the Spanish Empire of Philip II.

Surroundings

Brielle lies on the island of Voorne Putten, in the Brielse Maas recreation area. A 30-minute drive will take you to Rotterdam where you can visit Rotterdam Zoo or the impressive Boijmans van Beuningen Museum. You can also admire the city's beautiful modern architecture, cruise through the immense harbours or spend an afternoon shopping. Pleasant walking and cycling paths through the dunes and polders lie in the immediate surroundings of Fletcher Hotel de Zalm. Deltapark Neeltje Jans is also certainly worth a visit, and definitely the right place to find out more about the famous Dutch Delta Works.

Food and Drink

A breakfast buffet is available Monday to Friday from 06:00 until 10:00, and on Saturday and Sunday from 07:00. The hotel offers a renowned and stylish à la carte gastro-restaurant, De Zalm, which specialises in French cuisine. The kitchen is open from 17:30 until 20:30. Hotel De Zalm also features a cosy lunch café offering a wide selection of dishes. The delightful hotel bar is open from 08:00 until 01:00.

More human than a big corporate chain for the frequent business travel

The staff are great. Most have been with the hotel for many years and really know their business well.

The bath towels are VERY SMALL

Good hotel in central location but perhaps a bit expensive.

Staff were very helpful and friendly: they helped me change rooms and answered all my questions in very good English. Breakfast was good and central location was good.

The first room I was allocated was too hot to sleep in. The window did not open very much. A fan should have been provided.
