Hotel

Stee in Stad Groningen offers a special place to stay. Three apartments have been transformed into hotel rooms. Each apartment comes with three rooms, a shared bathroom, and a kitchen. The reception is established in a former corner shop, only 400 metres from the apartments. The hotel is managed by volunteers. After checking in you'll receive a map and keys to the building.

Surroundings

The Korrewegwijk area is just 5 minutes from the city centre and is easily accessible by bike and public transport. Groningen's attractive centre offers plenty of shops, from high street stores to cute little boutiques. After a day of shopping, you can enjoy a drink on one of the city's many outdoor terraces. One in five of Groningen's residents is a student, which means the city has a lively atmosphere, with plenty of culture and plenty to do! You are definitely recommended to see the Martinitoren while visiting Groningen. This 97-metre-high tower was used as a signalling post for centuries. It's now possible to climb the tower, and the first gallery will offer you a marvelous view of the city. With Stee in Stad as your base, it's easy to cross the Van Starkenborgh canal for beautiful walking or cycling trips through the Groningen countryside. Kardinge sports centre is just 15 minutes away, and has a subtropical swimming pool, tennis courts, and an ice skating rink.

Food and Drink

Breakfast is served on weekdays from 08:30 until 11:00, and at weekends from 09:00 until 11:00 in the building where the reception is located. Stee in Stad does not have a bar or a restaurant. You can receive discount vouchers for a range of nearby bars and restaurants where you can enjoy drinks and a bite to eat.

The staff were very friendly. It was an unusual building and arrangement for a hotel.

The shower room is amazingly small and the doors are so squeaky everybody else is woken up when you go to the toilet in the night.

    Verrasend slapen, verrassend goedkoop

Verrassend slapen, mooie kamer. En je maakt even deel uit van een buurt in dit buurtproject.

Bad en WC delen, maar je hebt wel een kamerjas. Het is wel even fietsen uit het centrum.

Different but good experience with a favourable price quality ratio.

I am very supportive about the way the lodging it is set up and supports the less abel people in our society to have work and learn something new.

The location although convinient for us is not in the best part of town what probably will limit other travellers to use the facilities.

“My tip: We walked the circa 2 kilometres to the centre of town (Grote Markt) to have a meal and drinks. We paid 77 euro including breakfast for 2 persons and slept in a very nice large room with as theme Moulin Rouge. Really special and strongly recommended.”

    Cosy place

Nice, cosy atmosphere, free parking. Easy proces of reservation, nice and polite personel.

Shared bathroom. There's also wrong address of accomodation given at hotels.nl - office has moved. It is near, but can be problem for foreigners.

“My tip: Klimt room is very very very nice! We like seccession very much.”

Lovely apartments for a great price-performance-ratio.

Friendly service and lovely decorated rooms.

“My tip: One should climb all the way up the "Martinikerk". You will have an awesome view above the city. If you want to have a nice dinner/snack go to "de Boom".”

    Not worth the price

    Staff is very friendly

Very small room, shower outside, toilet one (steep) flight of stairs down - I've had better accommodation for less.

Felt at home and lived like a Dutch- thanks to your thematic hotel.

Unlike regular business hotels, this hotel's unique theme made us feel very much in Netherlands as if we are visiting a friend's family. The idea of having bicyles for hire in the hotel was great. Keep it up! Hospitality too is great.

A nice friendly hostel type environment in a quieter part of town.

The staff were nice and friendly, everything was well organised and clean. At breakfast I met some nice young people (with excellent English as always seems to be the case in the Netherlands) and the staff were again smiling and friendly. It is only a 15 minute walk to the centre of Groningen and there are plenty of buses if you need one.

I have no negative comments. The Stee in Stad is a different type of experience and those booking will not be wanting a 'chain hotel' environment.

“My tip: The Olympia Restaurant in Zwanestraat is very good and I enjoyed the Soestdijk dinner-cafe in 3 Grote Kromme Elleboog and the Decadent bar (Gelkingestraat 56) was friendly and fun. We also found a nice quiet classy bar called "Bubbels" (Stalstraat 2) on Saturday night.”

    Great hostel.

Very nice place to stay in the north of Groningen. It is in 20 minutes walking distance to city center and also about 25 minutes walking to University Zernike campus. Nice rooms and good neighborhood.

    Cozy and excellent small hotel.

Very cozy accommodation, and I like the theme room. The location is at residential area and it means very quiet. Walking distance to Centrum (Grote Markt), the nearest train station is Groningen Noord and it is just 5 minutes walk. The services are excellent and the staffs are very friendly. Breakfast is healthy and quite good.

The steep stair and there are not too much to see at the surrounding. eating places are few and you need to walk to the city to find various restaurant. The separate bathroom temperature is very cold and it will be freezing in winter time. The hotel need to put heater in the bathroom.

Great design of the room. I was in prehistoric room. Very Friendly stuff. Clean and Quiet.

Far from the center, the toilet was on a different floor. The shower was sheared with 5 people.
