Staying in Het Arresthuis is unquestionably an unusual experience. This historic location was certainly not voluntarily visited between 1863 and 2007. However, since April 2011, guests are happy to stay here to indulge in luxury and comfort. Het Arresthuis originally functioned as a house of detention. It subsequently stood vacant for years before being utilised as a makeshift detention centre for 'drug mules' in 2002. In 2007, the jail was closed for good and the former prison was transformed into a hotel.
The prison used to have 105 cells that have been revamped into comfortable hotel rooms. Four suites have been created on the spot of the prison director's former quarters. The names of the suites refer to the prison's history: The Director, The Jailer, The Lawyer, and The Judge. The Comfort Rooms comprise of three cells merged into one, while the former recreation areas were used for the Deluxe Rooms. Both room types come with every modern convenience, such as a double bed, a desk, a sitting area, a safe, a mini-bar, a flatscreen television, and an en suite bathroom with a rain shower and a toilet.
Surroundings
Het Arresthuis is situated in the city centre. There's plenty to see and do both in and around Roermond. You can go shopping in the centre or unwind on one of the many lovely outdoor terraces. Beautiful walking and cycling routes lead through De Meinweg National Park. You can also try out various water sports on the Maasplassen lakes. Furthermore, culture-lovers will enjoy a visit to the Cuypershuis museum.
Food and Drink
Breakfast is served on weekdays from 06:30 until 10:00, and at weekends from 08:00 until 11:00. Diamanz is open on Monday to Saturday from 12:30 until 14:30 for lunch, and from 18:00 until 21:30 for dinner. The culinary team will surprise you with fresh and contemporary dishes. Weather permitting, you can also enjoy delicious food and drinks on the patio terrace or in the courtyard, which incidentally used to be the prison's exercise yard. You are also welcome in the bar, before as well as after dinner. The bar is open daily from 09:00 until 01:00.

Children/extra beds: A maximum of one child aged 3 and under can stay in the parents' room. A cot can be added in the room at a surcharge of €12.50 per night on request.

Excellent complementary breakfast. Excellent restaurant for dinner. Best venison I have ever had. Very accomodating staff.
While rooms are spartan in keeping with the hotel's theme. Storage space for guest items is very limited. While I liked the showers other travelers in my group did not.

Quiet but close to the centre of town.

No razors to shave.
No toothpaste or brush.
Not much space for clothes.
No door for the toilet! That is a little too close to a real cell.
