Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant de Dikke van Dale is situated in the medieval fortress town of Sluis. The hotel is named after the much-used 'De Dikke van Dale' Dutch dictionary, compiled by J.H. van Dale, a former resident of Sluis. This beautiful town lies in the region of Zeeland Flanders, near the Belgian border. A trip to Belgian cities like Bruges, Ghent and Knokke is therefore easy to accomplish.
The hotel is established in a former monastery. While renovating the building, the original facades were kept intact and a new wing was added, in keeping with the original style. The rooms come with a television, a safe, a bath, a toilet and a hairdryer. The hotel also offers excellent business facilities. The modern conference rooms are fitted with air conditioning, and audiovisual equipment is available on request.
While staying at the hotel, you can relax in the sauna, the steam bath or on the sunbed. These facilities are available at an additional charge.
Surroundings
A stroll through the fortress town of Sluis will lead you past city gates, the 'Belfort' tower and the 14th century ramparts. You'll find numerous nice shops and restaurants here. The old town centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Hop on a bike and enjoy the beautiful landscape with its dunes, bird nesting sites and Het Zwin nature reserve. You can also visit nice places just across the border in Belgium, such as Knokke-Heist and Bruges.
Food and Drink
You can enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet in the hotel, available daily from 07:30 until 10:30. The hotel has a restaurant called 'Johan Hendrik'. Its menu features classic French dishes with a contemporary touch. Fresh ingredients and seasonal produce play an important role. Lunch is served from 11:00 until 18:00, and dinner from 18:00 until 21:00. The hotel furthermore has an atmospheric bar and a library with a fireplace where you can enjoy a nice drink.

Comfy beds. Good breakfast
Poor heating system, on complaining given an heater too small for the room, asked for another room this was given but we had to move at 9pm, and the young lady was not very keen let us move.

good location, price was good compared to quality.
not very well cleaned (dead spiders in the elevator), bar staff had no knowledge about the products they sold.

Reception was friendly
Strong smell of tobacco smoke and beer in the lobby and breakfast area. Pillows far to big and uncomfortable. Room doors poorly sound insulated, you can hear eveybody in the corridor.
