The hospitable character of hotel _Het Rechthuis aan den Amstel_ has a long history with a particular historical significance. During the Dutch Golden Age, before the start of the third English war in 1672, the 'stadholder' William III wanted to clear the air between two admirals who had had a dispute. He invited both Admiral Tromp and Admiral De Ruyter to _Het Rechthuis aan den Amstel_, where peace was restored between the two commanders. The consequences, however, were not so rosy.
