Hellevoetsluis is one of the largest marinas in the Netherlands. It used to be a naval port and it was here that the famous Spanish treasure fleet - transporting valuables from America to Spain in the 16th and 17th century - was brought ashore by Piet Hein after being captured out at sea. Buildings such as the 'Tromphuys' and 'Ruyterhuys', the latter of which is named after Michiel de Ruyter, serve as a reminder of this time. The former dry dock where the maintenance of minesweepers was once carried out has now been turned into a museum. The province of South Holland also comprises islands such as Voorne-Putten en Goeree-Overflakkee. The region is characterised by wide, sandy beaches, dunes, beautiful woods and is seen as a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. The area is also ideal for walking and cycling. The seaside resort of Rockanje is only a short distance from Beach Hotel Cape Helius while the vibrant city of Rotterdam is just a 30-minute drive away.Food and Drink
