Hotel
In the 15th century an inn was built where travellers and coachmen of covered wagons and stagecoaches found shelter. This inn quickly grew into one of the first hotels in Flanders, under the name ?Den Gauden Appel? (The Golden Apple). For nobles and wealthy merchants who travelled with diligences and carriages, this was a beloved accommodation. Emperor Charles also liked to visit Oudenaarde in between trips and war and his daughter Margaret of Parma regularly stayed here. The Sun King Louis XIV gallicized the name into La Pomme d'Or.
The rooms at Hotel La Pomme D'Or Oudenaarde have private bathrooms, air conditioning, television with DVD player, safe and wireless internet. The sunny terrace is accessible from the lounge and restaurant, you can enjoy an aperitif or your dessert. The cosy bistro overlooks the beautiful market.
In the market square is a decorative fountain that was donated by Louis XIV. The famous Gothic Town Hall on the market has beautiful collections of silver and tapestries. From the 15th to the 18th century, Oudenaarde was a thriving and prosperous centre of the carpet industry and Oudenaarde tapestries were exported around the world.
Surroundings
La Pomme d'Or is the ideal base for a trip to the Flemish Ardennes or the historic centre of Oudenaarde. The Flemish Ardennes is a true cycling area. The route of the famous cycling classic, the Tour of Flanders, with its cobblestones is very popular with cyclists. For a 'normal' bicycle or mountain bike ride or walk it is also an ideal area. Oudenaarde is a very appropriate choice for a wonderful weekend or mini vacation where you can enjoy both culture and beautiful nature.

Good view from the room of the Staadhuis and a lovely welcoming touch with a decanter of port in the room - that went down very well with my Husband!.
When the hotel said check in at 3pm they meant at 3pm and not before!!. That is not really a minus point just an observation.
