Other places worth visiting are the town hall, the beguinage and the Beurs van Amsterdam.
Surroundings
Aalst lies between Ghent and Brussels and both cities can be reached within a 30-minute. The historic city centre of Ghent is certainly worth visiting. The city's skyline is dominated by the towers of the belfry, the St Nicholas Church and the Saint Bavo Cathedral, where you can admire the world-famous painting 'Adoration of the Mystic Lamb' by Jan van Eyck. Another crowd-puller in Ghent is the medieval fortress of Gravensteen. Brussels, the 'capital of Europe', with its famous Grand Place is also definitely worth visiting. As is the historic, medieval city centre of Bruges, which is only a half hour drive from Ibis Hotel Aalst Centrum. The hotel's direct vicinity beckons a bike ride along the river banks of the Dender.
