Hotel

The Ghent River Hotel has its own jetty and it is the only hotel in Ghent that is accessible by boat. The hotel consists of a Renaissance house dating from 1518 and an old factory that dates from 1857. Both buildings are connected by a very modern section. In front of the hotel is a little square that served as a cotton market during the Middle Ages and the nineteenth century. Next to the hotel is a typical medieval 'little water street'. A few minutes' walk from the hotel you will find the Vrijdagsmarkt.

The warmly decorated rooms are charming. To relax, guests can use the sauna (at a charge) and free fitness facilities. The medieval cellar is a great place for a cocktail party, a private dinner or a product presentation. The hotel has meeting rooms with a capacity of up to 50 persons.

Surroundings

The city centre of Ghent is mostly off-limit for cars. The train station Gent-Sint-Pieters is the city's main station. There are many options to discover this beautiful city. You could go on a guided city tour or explore the city on foot by yourself. It is also possible to book a boat ride or enjoy a trip in a horse carriage. An even more spectacular view is to be had during a balloon or helicopter ride.

Food and Drink

The breakfast room lies on the third floor of the hotel and offers a beautiful view of the Ghent skyline. In the cosy lounge guests can enjoy a Belgian beer or another drink.

Used to be a lot better

Used to be pretty perfect, perfect location, nice rooms and friendly staff

Splashes of brown drops near the toilet in the bathroom. I asked the reception on three different occasions to claen this mess up and although they said they would, nothing was done. The fact that they did not clean this after being asked nicely irritated the most. I was staying in an Executive room for Christmas and expected some luxury, there was none. Although they gave me a discount, the bathroom could now still be filthy, I am not happy with that! + Breakfast is way to expensive

“My tip: De Grill at the Korenlei 5 has the best meat in town, Het Klokhuys is a really cosy and good restaurant with Belgian kitchen”

Excellent location, facilities, service, value for money.

Reception staff very friendly and helpful, they provided a tourist map and booklet of Ghent. The location was excellent, the room was spacious and had all the facilities you would need. There was a wide selection of food to cater for all at breakfast. Highly recommend this hotel.

Although not under the Hotels control, information relating to the cost of parking in the area just outside the Hotel would of been helpful. You can park for 24hrs for as little as 10 Euro, but you need to be able to understand the language otherwise parking would of been expensive.

    Ligging, prijs parkeergarage.

De lekkerste broodjes waren om half 10 al op. Ook waren de scrambled eggs al op.

“My tip: Parkeren in nabij gelegen parkeergarage kost €10 per dag. ”

    Good choice for weekend stay.

Hotel has good location to access the centre. Even to comeback for a while and to rest if exhausted by city walk. It was clean and nice. Good choice for short stay.

Room was cold - situated on base floor with window to the inner section. Fortunately reception provide us heater upon request. Price of breakfast was too high considering the quality. No fresh fruits and vegetables in breakfast bar.

Nice rooms, a combination of old and new. Cosy.

Bad ventilation in sauna. Broken items in the room (a lamp, the shower).

Location is fantastic within walking distance of all local restaurants and entertainment. All in all a very enjoyable stay. The rooms were very comfortable but could perhaps have been bigger?

The bar area is not very good as it is in the main reception. A separate bar area away from the entrance would be better and perhaps then we would have had a drink.
