Hotel Alexander is a comfortable 3-star hotel, conveniently located between the 'Vondel Park' and the lively 'Leidseplein'. Very friendly staff. Rooms that sleep more than 2. Lovely and warm room.

None really, I just disliked the roads that I had to cross to get to it. I have been to Amsterdam several times and I am always terrified crossing the roads! Great city!

Overpriced for what you get

Very good location, easy to get to with an abundance of local amenities; pleasant and helpful day receptionist allowed me to check in before 2pm; well hoovered room, very comfortable bed, high pressure shower; excellent coffee and orange juice at breakfast.

Accumulation of dust on back of and behind fridge in room; shower cutain was a major annoyance, kept blowing into the shower area with the floor getting wet as a consequence; internet facilities very expensive at 4 Euros per hour, which I was unable to use as the voucher I was sold at reception was out of date - the night receptionist was not apologetic about this and suggested no alternative such as a local bar or cafe where I could access the web, he simply gave me a refund; breakfast buffet had a very limited selection of food - only one type of cheese (disappointing as Dutch cheese is superb) and nothing hot to eat except hard boiled eggs.

Lovely hotel

The hotel is located in a very quiet street just a few minutes from the Leidseplein. From the hotel we found the Van Gogh, Rijksmuseum at just walking distance. The breakfast was well served and we had plenty of choice. The staff was very helpful and took the time to attend us. Great hotel, was my first time in Amsterdam and I will definettly be back.

Small family run business with good breakfast

Lacks customer service. For instance I wanted to leave a day before but the owner would n't pay me back my money even though I gave him 48 hr notice. Restrooms do not come with soap/shampoo. There is no concierge. Overall not a 3 star atleast by US standards.

The room was clean and the bath/shower worked well. The breakfasts were excellent. Good location, very quiet at night.

Hotel seemed expensive, although maybe not by Amsterdam standards. The quad room we had was fine for a family with two young children but probably a bit of a squeeze for 4 adults. Service was not over-friendly but very efficient.

The location to Leidesplein is excellent. Also, places such as the lovely Vondel park and the important museums are but a short walk away. The breakfast is fabulous in range especially that it is included in the room price. One internet station is available for guest use and is free! The staff are warm and helful with varied questions.

The rooms are in close proximity of each other so hearing other guests is somewhat loud in the mornings!

I got a room with balcony after asking for it. Freshly made orange juice for breakfast. Staff was very nice and helpful (parking tickets, maps, internet access,...). Room size was amazing for Amsterdam standards.

Breakfast was very basic except for the good orange juice: only 1 type of cheese, only "soft" bread (I am from Germany and am used to a different kind), cold cooked eggs, no fruit that could be eaten with "muesli" (cereals). Stains on my bed sheets (looked like old blood - probably does not go out when washing, but still looks not good).

Location was perfect, staff were efficient and friendly, hotel was clean and the room was a good size for four people, with a door opening onto the courtyard. Lovely - would happily stay there again and recommend it to others.

These are minor points only: the breakfast room is a bit small and cramped for the number of people using it, the 'bar' wasn't up to much and I'd have liked tea and coffee facilities in the bedroom (altho' the fact we could get a cup of coffeee in the bar made up for this to some extent).
