Fantastic hotel, would stay again!

Great location, great staff, and perhaps the most comfortable single beds I've ever slept on! Decent priced beer too (for Amsterdam anyway).

'Basic' rooms, located on 1st floor and basement, can be very noisy, with trams going past and noise easily heard from the bar.

Stay here it's really good!

Everything! We had a double room with a bathroom, it was clean and modern, the beds were really comfy. The staff were friendly and helpful - The location is fantastic for Leidseplein! This will be my first choice next time we come back to Amsterdam - you cannot find anything better for the money!

None - don't worry about the trams outside, they are not that loud and didn't bother us all!

Back Stage - Wel'll Be Back!

Great for music lovers in terms of decor, memorabilia and just across the road from Melkweg and a 10 minute walk to the great Cafe Alto and Pardiso. Very clean rooms and really friendly and helpful staff.

Trams outside the window are a bit noisy - but hey it's a city hotel for real music lovers so just turn up the i-pod docking station!

A must for music lovers!

If you love music, this is the place to stay. Bands from all over the world, and nearby establishments to listen to them. In the heart of Leidsplein square, and close to everything. Easy to get to from the airport or Amsterdam Central. Staff are very friendly, and the decor is geared to music lovers! Drums for light fixtures in the rooms, and saxaphone lights in the lounge!

Too many small stairs if you are on the second floor.

Absolutely fantastic hotel!!

Well having recently spent 4 days in Amsterdam I can not recommend Backstage enough, what a fantastic hotel in a perfect location! The staff was second to none, with the emphasis on Gijs who entertained/serviced us to a very high standard! That accompanied with the plush, modern environment set by Backstage has made for a very enjoyable stay! Backstage would be my first choice everytime!!

Very comfortable and stylish - Shame it's a bit noisy

The room looks really nice, you'll have a drum as a lampshade, a mirror with lamps bulbs around it like a super star, relatively comfortable beds and friendly service. Very stylish.

You can hear people's steps above your head. I sleep quite deeply but got woken up by the noise from upstairs anyway. Didn't get much sleep. Shame cos the hotel is absulutely fab apart from the noise issue. Maybe they could do a refurbishment and make the floor a bit thicker.

Good stay.

The staff were really friendly and willing to help out anytime day or night, even when we got back from a club at 5am! Room was nice and clean with a very comfortable bed! Shower was good, warm and powerful.

the genuinely helpful and friendly staff set this hotel apart. clean and well kept rooms plus superb facilities too. I can't think of a single problem or disappointment during my stay.

taxi drivers don't seem to know where the hotel is and the exchange rate makes them quite pricey. if you get a taxi, ask for leidseplein and make the 2 minute walk. you can get about 5 days of tram travel for the price of one taxi fare though, so just get the number 2 tram to leidseplein. it's about 10 minutes on the tram to/from the centraal station

friendly staff, great location (20 seconds walk from Leidseplein). 10 minute tram ride from Centraal. A bit pricey for the size of the room, but everything was clean and tidy. The theme (ie backstage/music-y) was pretty cool. One of the nicer places I have stayed in. But I would call this place more of a (really nice) hostel than a hotel.

Spacious rooms, excellent for 4 sharing. iPod docking station for your own tunes. Easy to find and close to a busy square. Only a 20 minute walk from the center, or a 5 minute tram ride. Friendly staff, very welcoming. Bar in the hotel, with cheap bottles of beer. Decent local pubs and coffee shops. All round an excellent hotel which made it a pleasurable stay.

It is being quite harsh, but the bathroom looked dated compared to the rest of the room, but it did the job. The stairs were steep like everywhere else in Amsterdam, but it keeps you fit.

Goed hotel midden in het centrum van Amsterdam voor een betaalbare prijs. Mensen zijn erg vriendelijk.

Er rijden veel trams richting het Leidseplein dus die hoor je 's ochtends vroeg alweer en de gangen zijn ook een beetje luidruchtig.

Erg leuk hotel op toplocatie

Bijzonder hartelijke service en een geweldige ligging! Een zeer originele en leuke inrichting. Een hotel om te onthouden als je naar Amsterdam gaat.

De kamer was niet klaar op de inchecktijd. Via booking.com was niet duidelijk dat het sanitair gedeeld werd, maar voor een kleine toeslag konden we een andere kamer krijgen, dat was weer prima! 's Ochtends vroeg wakker doordat er een stijger tegen het hotel aangebouwd werd, maar daar wist de staf niets van, dus daar konden zij niets aan doen.

The ultimate hotel for musicians (and their friends) on the road

If you love musicians this place if for you as you will live amongst them there and eventually meet them and talk about their lives on the road. Also it's totally relaxed and friendly. If you come down late for breakfast they will still serve you! The rates are extremely reasonable considering the hotel's fantastic location in between Melkweg and Paradiso. Now I can't imagine going some place anymore in Amsterdam

The building is old, so you'll get what goes with it: very steep stairways, windows that do not necessarily close easily and a capricious heating system. But then again you go there for the atmosphere and this is truly fantastic
