Hotel Old Nickel Amsterdam is a real meeting place for international travellers. It is situated in the heart of the city, just a 2-minute walk from the Central Station. There is a cosy bar which is famous for its huge selection of beers.

The small Hotel Old Nickel is run by a family. The multilingual staff is committed to ensure that your stay in Amsterdam will be a wonderful experience that you will remember for a long time. They gladly assist you with booking a tour or renting bicycles. The rooms have a shared bathroom on the floor. All rooms have a television, except the rooms in the annex. On request, a radio alarm clock and luggage rack are available. In the cosy bar with its woodcarving are remains of the ship in which the naval hero Michiel de Ruyter sailed the seven seas in the 17th century. It offers more than 70 different kinds of specialty beers on the beer menu.

Together with its sister hotel Old Quarter, the hotel is located at the spot where the first houses were built in Amsterdam. To protect the houses against water from the Amstel river a dam was built, and this is how the city got its name. Today, Dam Square is a major attraction in Amsterdam. The Royal Palace, Nieuwe Kerk, Madame Tussauds and the Bijenkorf department store are located around the square where street artists often perform. On the square is also the National Monument, commemorating the war casualties.

Breakfast is served from 07:30 to 10:00 h. and consists of eggs and bacon, coffee or tea and bread and jam.
The bar is open from 09:00 to 04:00 h. You can choose from more than 70 beers.

Surroundings

Hotel Old Nickel Amsterdam is located in the famous red light district of Amsterdam. Many tourist attractions are within walking distance of the hotel, such as the cruise boats on the Damrak, the Kalverstraat shopping street and the stunning shopping mall Magna Plaza where fine luxuries are sold, the market at the Waterlooplein and the interesting museum Nemo. The building where this museum for science and technology houses has become a real eye catcher at the 'IJ'. The Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum and the Hermitage are also great museums to visit. The New Church often has interesting exhibitions and the Old Church and Montelbaanstoren are attractive buildings nearby. Amsterdam is a wonderful city to explore by strolling along the canals, the centre is very compact.

Clean with tiny rooms

staff is friendly and helpful. the ground floor is a cool bar, live music 3 days a week and many kinds of beer.

my room was really really tiny, barely 3 square meters. when i checked in they wanted the full payment in advance, which is unusual. the price seemed quite high for a room with no bath.

Fine and cheap place for young people

Good price for apropriate quality. Very central where the amusement area is. Excellent for young people. The room even had a window, which seems to be almost special in this part of the city. Breakfast was very fine, friendly people there.

The real place to stay can be somewhere else than the the address of the hotel. Our place was fine, but I don't know the other two. Nothing for old people that don't like steep stairways or all the famous 'attractions' out there...

Highly recommended!

Great staff, we loved the breakfast in the morning! The bathroom facilities were clean and tidy. Very close to central station and centrally located in city.

The bedspread seemed a little dirty, we used our own pillowcases.

Enjoy!

The staff is amazing, we enjoyed all of them. Location is more than convenient, hotel is great value for money! As a group of friend meeting after longer time we were keen on central location close to the central train station. The best feature about this Hotel is it's location.

Great location but a bit noisy with a room facing the street, but was no problem.

Great coffee shame about the rest!

Close to station and right in old quarter of city centre

Badly bitten by fleas. Very shabby rooms, rude barstaff. Breakfast (take it or leave it) is sliced bread and jam with an incredibly bad omlet. Great coffee though. Wiifi did not work, and the tv in room did not work. Overall poor experience.

De ligging is goed, erg centraal.

Men stopte mij op een zolderkamer, waar het zurig stonk, door de pis in de wastafel denk ik. Verder was het er benauwd. De lakens waren schoon, maar de dekens en spreien goor.

Super Lage, sowohl zum Bahnhof als auch zum Zentrum, einfach zu finden, sehr nette Bar, sehr netter Mann hinter der Bar, Bier auch sehr lecker, angenehmenes Publikum, "shared facilities" auch sauber. Für den Preis gutes Frühstück (Rührei mit Schinken), habe mich wohlgefühlt
