Score of 34 reviews: 8.2

The NH Krasnapolsky Hotel Amsterdam originated in 1866, although it formerly functioned as a cafe. The founder, Mr. A.W. Krasnapolsky, commissioned the construction of hotel rooms in the building. This luminous idea formed the catalyst for the makeover from small cafe to the luxurious Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky. Under the one roof you will find a genuine 'village', including a conference centre, fitness room, several restaurants, a convenience store and, above all, the hotel has a private jetty. In case of a long stay, seven nights or more, there is the option of reserving one of the NH Krasnapolsky Apartments.

Discover the incredible wealth in art, culture and history at ease. Amsterdam has a lot in store for you: beautiful architecture, impressive galleries, many interesting museums, romantically illuminated canals and a vivid nightlife. The central location of the Krasnapolsky Hotel at the Dam provides walking accessibility to all areas of interest.

Staying at the NH Krasnapolsky Hotel Amsterdam guarantees spacious rooms, combining style and comfort. Air conditioning, coffee and tea making facilities, mini bar and room lockers are standard facilities in the rooms. The hotel has a glass covered courtyard that can be used for receptions for a maximum of 100 guests. There is also a meeting room for 10 guests.

Surroundings

The NH Krasnapolsky Hotel Amsterdam is located conveniently at the Dam square. Many areas of interest surround this famous square. Examples are The National Monument, Madame Tussauds and the Royal Palace. The Dam square is situated in an area with a considerable amount of shops, consisting of the Kalverstraat, the Nieuwendijk and Magna Plaza. Also many museums, theatres and markets are easy to access.

Food and Drinks

The NH Krasnapolsky has a lot to offer in the culinary provision. You will encounter the Wintertuin (winter garden), Grand Café Mathilde, Restaurant Reflet and the Golden Palm Bar. All of these establishments emanate a unique atmosphere, though quality is what binds them. At the inhouse distillery De Liefde van Wynand Fockink you can purchase jenevers and liquors.

The Winter garden Take a seat in the Winter Garden and enjoy the international breakfast buffet. This extraordinary place to start the day from has been added to the list of new monuments of the city's Rijksmonumenten. The glass roof, supported by a construction of wood and wrought iron, covers the room with a blanket of natural light. Decorations that characterize art, trade and science have been attached to the walls.

Restaurant Reflet Restaurant Reflet entails a history at least as interesting as the Krasnapolsky Hotel itself and has also been adopted by the city as a preserved room. In the decoration, elements from around 1885 are preserved, under which there are several paintings and clocks. Relax and take a seat to enjoy a romantic dinner in style. You will have the choice between classical French dishes or delicacies from international cuisine. Menus change with the seasons. The restaurant is open daily from 18:00 h.

Spoil yourself with a high tea or a cup of coffee accompanied by delicacies from the in-house bakery, which can be enjoyed whilst observing The Dam and the Royal Palace from Grand Café Mathilde. Also the Golden Palm Bar enables you to take a delicious cocktail.

Great location and Comfy with it
  • + Location unbeatable and rooms very comfortable and quiet even at the really busy times of year. Easy to catch up on sleep after partying in comfy, clean rooms.
  • Reception seems to be getting slower and slower as the years go by...
  • * my tip Kalverstraat for great shopping and Tuchinski for a real cinema with atmosphere...

This is a comfortable, welcoming and friendly hotel, well situated in
  • + Freindly staff, very pleasant welcome
  • One concierge gave us completely false information: directed us to a department store that had been closed for renovations for months and to a very touristy and very poor restaruant (Oude Holland) when we had specifically asked for a recommendation for a restaurant patronised by locals.
  • * my tip Enjoyed the Scheepsvaart museum as well as the traditional museums.

Wonderful hotel in a wonderful location
  • + Perfect location for shopping and sightseeing.
  • Due to the hot weather we experienced in May 2012, a pool would have been good, but I know that is not possible.

Great Location and Quality
  • + fantastic quality, the remodelled rooms have put it back up with the best in Amsterdam. Location probably unbeatable, as a trade off against proximity to Central Station vs City Centre attractions. Good proffessional staff too.
  • floors seemed to be a litle neglected in the cleaning regime, the new board floors could do with a mop each day instead of a cursory sweep.

Central location, good service but old fashion rooms
  • + Wonderful breakfast in the winther garden and the hotel is in the middle of everything in the center of Amsterdam.
  • The standard room was old fashion and in need of redecoration. The wallpaper was off some places. But big room, that is a plus.

  • + The history of the hotel. Breakfast in the Winter gardens
  • Left to bring my own luggage into the hotel as 3 employees wastched. Very tired room. Corridor smelled of pee. Very sad as I have stayed there many times. I will never stay again. Not the hotel it used to be. There is better value to be had.

Convenient location for all of Amsterdams sights
  • + Convenient central location, friendly atmosphere from staff, all very helpful. Room clean & tidy.
  • Not luxurious, in my opinion for a 5 star hotel, expensive from that point of view, room although clean & tidy was "tired" and needed to be freshened up.

Luxury and comfort at the Dam
  • + Goededag. This was just excellent. Next time we will stay at the Krasnapolsky the whole visit, now we moved to a guesthouse after the first two nights in the city to save a few euros. The service was perfect and the rooms are as luxorious as they get. Dankjewell! Mit vriendelijke groeten, Atli & Rosa

Nice hotel but a bit dated
  • + The hotel was in a great location with it being in damn square it is only a short walk from the train station which makes it easily accessible from the airport.
  • Due to the location it can be noisy during the day and at night time, we stayed on the third floor at the front of the hotel and could hear cheering from damn square during the day and people on the street during the night. The hotel needs to be modernised, the room was clean except for stains on the chairs in the room, but the overall observation would be that the room decor was very dated and the bathroom felt like a hospital batroom.
