The Lloyd Hotel Amsterdam, besides an impressive building, is an extraordinary experience. It is not just the diversity in styles that characterizes the hotel, the rooms almost suggest multiple hotels in one building. The rooms vary from 1 to 5 stars and are decorated in completely diverse styles.
The Lloyd hotel has a rich history, dating from 1921. At that time the hotel was designed to accommodate the 'Koninklijke Hollandse Lloyd' a company that managed the South-America line for freighting and subsequently for passengers. During this time the hotel obtained the status of hotel whilst accommodating passengers in the waiting time between trips. The design and construction of the hotel were of grand prestige, increasing costs which eventually contributed to the bankruptcy of KHL. The result however, was a beautiful construction in the architectural style 'Amsterdamse School', with eclectic shapes and a stately appearance. The building has been used as a prison and as an artistic workshop. The beautiful listed building is nowadays equipped with all comfort and suitable for any kind of visit. The vast list of architects and artists involved is implemented throughout the whole hotel and blends function and splendour to form an enchanting experience.
Over 50 designers and artists have transformed the interior to a unique collection of arts. No room is alike and each room emanates an extraordinary atmosphere; from 'fold-open bathrooms' to a bath in the middle of the room. On top of this many of the rooms offer a beautiful view of the water, reminding you not to forget visiting the centre of Amsterdam. In the Lloyd Hotel a world of information can be requested at the 'Cultural Embassy', where directions towards cultural highlights are provided with great pleasure. Organising a meeting in any style and to any extent is easy at the Lloyd Hotel. With a capacity from 2 to 100 persons and the rich variety of rooms, which are scattered throughout the premises, any kind of meeting can be accommodated adequately.
Food and Drinks
The wide variety of European dishes, honest and fresh ingredients and classic methods of preparation guarantee culinary delight at the restaurant. The restaurant is open for service throughout the day, from 07:00 in the morning to 01:00 h. at night, but ?take away dishes? are also available. Meals can be ordered in any size or quantity, fully adjusted to individual needs. Happiness follows simplicity at the Lloyd Hotel Amsterdam.
Reserving at the restaurant is advised. Group menus can be arranged for groups of eight people and more. The continental breakfast is served daily from 07:00 to 11:00 h. You can order roomservice 24 hours a day, at a charge of €7.50 per order.

These rooms are equipped with furniture from famous contemporary Dutch artists such as Richard Hutten, Ineke Hans and Tjalko Lokhorst. For the bathrooms Bureau Lakenvelder, Atelier van Lieshout and architects MVRDV came up with remarkable solutions: some bathrooms are brightly coloured and are in the middle of the room, other bathrooms seem hidden, but can be folded out.

Beautiful, spacious rooms with an exceptional interior. Some rooms boast original cupboards and come with a bed-in-a-cupboard while others offer atmospheric lighting through the ceiling-high French windows. The furniture is designed by famous contemporary Dutch designers, while classic furniture from the 20's by architect De Bazel complements these rooms.

The most spacious and extraordinary rooms of the Lloyd Hotel. These amazing rooms are eye-catching and are all different. A variety of surprises await you in these original rooms such as a very large table or a fibre-glass bathroom designed by Atelier van Lieshout. In some rooms the bath is the centrepiece. - VERY comfortable beds! Unique atmosphere. Quiet and a little out of town, but very close to the tram. Excellent breakfast. Very extensive restaurant menu for dinner and very good!
- Breakfast was extra. Hard to find at night (in the dark) the first time from the tram. Limited restaurant options in the neighborhood -- you pretty much have to eat at the hotel restaurant.

- Fantastic building
Wonderful library and restaurant etc.
Coffee/teamaking in cupboard on corridor.
Great views of Amsterdam and excellent location.
Spacious well lit room with windows that open - wonderful
- 1. I know we only had One Star but if the wash basin in the room was connected it would have saved the walk to use the basins in the bathroom.
2. Service was variable - reception was very helpful but too busy. Customers had to wait quite a while on several occasions when I was there.
3. Service on outdoor patio on Saturday morning was slow and not up to required standard

- Not bang in the middle of town, at night you would need to take a 10EUR taxi back to the hotel, but its 2 stops from Amsterdam Central Station on the tram, so daytime is fine. watch out, some room have showers in the room (first time i seen this).

- Got to the hotel at 10am in the morning, checked in and was aware room wasnt ready till 3pm, came back to the hotel at 11pm and i had no bedrooms they had overbooked. I was offered to be out booked which wasnt and option as my 14 friends all were stayin in the hotel, eventually at 1am a suite became available which i could use. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk from Dam square. The 1 star rooms are very small would recommend at least a 2 star room.

- A fascinating place to stay, with surprises around each corner. The redevelopment of the building manages to combine modern facilities within a heritage surround and works very well. The staff and levels of service were consistently of an exemplary standard. The location was ideal for us, as we had a focus on the regeneration of the East Harbour area, and accesing the city centre was no difficulty. I would, and have highly recommend the hotel

- everyone was wonderful. the flowers beautiful and appreciated. the magnolia tree in the restaurant was esp fabulous. we loved the lecture that was on the first night of our stay monday the 2nd as well as the music - that was great. the breakfast was awesome, fresh and tasty. you gave us an up grade which was so wonderful. the beds and blankets are my favorite thing - a good bed is really what you want when traveling (well I love a bath tub too but am probably in the minority on that one) and your beds are the BEST of anywhere I have been and as I am getting pretty old, I've been to alot of hotels. I love that the hotel is in a neighborhood - so nice to see the moms and dads on their bikes with the kids and groceries. your desk person knew what bike lane we should head out on to get to Haarlem. it is fun to rent a bike then ride on to the hotel from the train station -vey easy and nice to move when you are just off the train/plane. we really love the lloyd hotel. thanks

- This hotel has real charachter I could not have stayed in a more comfortable bed (it was in a cupbard but was huge! myself and my boyfriend had two wonderful nights sleep) The shower was also fantastic (very powerfull) The food in the restaurant was superb, the decor in the hotel has been kept true to its 1920s roots but with all the modern conviences needed. With ongoing photography exhibitions all the walls lined with bookshelves you would need a day in itself just to explore the many wonders the hotel has to offer. I have no hesitation in recommending it. And have already done so to all my friends and family. The staff and especially Fredrick the night concierge was very helpful and pleasant to deal with in finding my book which I had left at the dinner table the night before. He is a true asset to the Hotel. Both myself and my boyfriend will stay at this hotel on all our future trips to Amsterdam. as will our family and friends.
- On our first morning and dinnear on the second evening we waited along time to get served in the restaurant even though there were about 6 staff rushing around, however they had a large group in due to a conferance being held at the hotel, and they seemed slightly understaffed. so it was understandable. They also gave us the breakfast at a discount, due to having to wait so long. But the waiters were very friendly and helpfull when dealing with us.

- I am an American who toured Europe last summer. I traveled through England, Belgium, Germany, and Holland. I have also traveled extensively throughout my home country. Also, I worked at a full-service hotel in the U.S. for a year. I KNOW hotels inside and out, and the Lloyd Hotel Amsterdam is certainly one of my favorites. I erroneously indicated online that I would like a room for just one person. When my friend and I arrived at the hotel, a single room was prepared for us. We enjoyed beverages in the gorgeous dining area while we waited for our larger room to be readied for our arrival. The hotel was like an art gallery of furniture and architecture. It was truely amazing. The staff was professional and friendly. Food was AMAZING. The burger there is the best I've had on Earth, and I have had a good many. The lamb and calamari were excellent as well. The room was a work of art in itself, from the design of the windows to the outrageous idea of the shower in the middle of the open room with a swinging door-wall. My stay was extremely comfortable and relaxing, while also being entertaining and action-packed. The hotel is walking distance from all the attractions of downtown Amsterdam. And the available computers with free internet were quite convenient. I am thoroughly satisfied and will hopefully return soon.

- It was very clean and welcoming. The food was plenty and very delicious. The 24 hour service (including restaurant, internet access) was very convenient. The staff was very friendly and relaxed. Liked the exhibition about the history of the hotel. The fresh tulips cheered up even the basement corridor. Although it was out of the town centre the transport was good. It was a unique experience on the overall. We would recommend it.
- The the shower area in the middle of the room was interesting but neither ideal nor safe because once one of us had a shower we had to walk through a wet floor if we wanted to go to the other side of the room. For that price we could have found a nice B&B closer to the centre and probably a better bathroom arrangement. The view from the basement was not brilliant. Once we opened a bar of soap it was taken away and not replaced so we ended up having nothing at the end. Lucky that we had our own.

- The beds, pillows and comforters were amazing. I think I got the best nights sleeps I have had in a long time. Although our room was super tiny, it was cozy and warm. WE will stay at the Lloyd again but in a 2 star and we will recommend it to our friends.
- We stayed in a one star room b/c that was all we could really afford at the Lloyd hotel so we had to share a bathroom/shower which wasn't always clean. I also think there should of been more then 1 toilet and 1 shower for the rooms.

- An interesting place historically and possibly good value at two or three star levels.Quite good food experience except for the absence of an English breakfast.Clean linen every day - as expected.Friendly staff who were not always as attentive as promised.
- Not the luxury we expected of a four star price/quality room.
Pennypinching absence of room refreshments - a kettle etc.a singular annoyance for tourists.
Request for help with the communal refreshment point was promised but never received. Was that the result of too many changes of staff at Reception?
Stale tobacco smoke ever evident on the lower floor at reception and in the restaurant - which was not a no-smoking area. Promised room experience not fulfilled.Additional payment for continental breakfast not acceptable at four star level.Bath too high for old people so the room was not well chosen for us.
This hotel is not for those who want theluxury associated with four and five star hotels elsewhere, though the prices were certainly at those levels.
In all the hotel offers a compromise experience: it is difficult to reconcile several levels of service in one hotel- especially in the restaurant.I would rate the service as two/three star based on experiences in hotels in the UK - but at four star prices. Staying in an interestingly designed room/building was not a sufficient compensation for the shorcomings we experienced.

- The beds are comfortable and they do actually give you a double bed when you ask for it - this can be an uphill battle in Amsterdam.
Service in the bar is good, friendly and convenient.
- Service in the restaurant is extremely slow, I experienced the kitchen taking 20 minutes to do an omelette when the place was no busier than I'd consider normal.
Maybe I shouldn't have been, but it still took me by surprise in a hotel like this to find smoking in all areas of the restaurant.
